A Busy Day at Camp Agawak!

Last night was midnight movie! The juniors and intermediates watched How to Train Your Dragon while the seniors cried their eyes out watching The Fault of Our Stars.  Campers were screaming and shouting “midnight movie” throughout camp at 11:45pm dressed in their pajamas.  Everyone enjoyed the late night movie with popcorn that has become a favorite among campers and staff.

This morning we slept a little later to make up for the loss of sleep.  Camper of the day, Shayley Polikov, and counselor of the day, Nikki Sheinkop, were smiling ear to ear as they received their special awards.  At breakfast, campers and staff were surprised with mounds of delicious homemade granola.  The yogurt and fresh fruit bar was a BIG hit!  After breakfast campers headed to their cabins for inspection.  Then we broke into our Blue & White Teams to prepare for an exciting game of tenathalon.  The sun was shining all morning with no rain clouds on the horizon.

Tonight we enjoyed one another’s company in Happy Camper Hall as we danced the night away at Club Agawak.  Individual cabins received a pink envelope outside their cabin door inviting them to attend Club Agawak.  Each cabin dressed up as the holiday of their choice.  Kasper K from Monster Entertainment was here to get our party rocking.  He is part of a DJ company located in the northern suburbs of Chicago.  They love to come up and tour camps around the area and this was their second event this summer at Agawak.  Thank you to Monster Entertainment for coming out tonight!  The girls enjoyed some delicious tacos, cheese and salami, goldfish and more while they were dancing the night away.  They got their picture taken and even got a chance to hang out in a special VIP section.  This was a great night to continue cabin bonding.  The most creative costumes from each division will be receiving Agawak dollars which will be redeemed at the end of the session.

When I think about how long Agawak has been here I think about the thousands of campers whose lives were changed and millions of memories that were made. I feel so proud to be a part of something so extraordinary.  Every single day I am thankful for this magical place that helps us discover ourselves.  Every day there are ups and downs that parallel real life.  We are all very fortunate to be able to spend our summers on Blue Lake. At campfire I hear campers giving thanks to their parents for sending them to camp. This appreciation isn’t taken lightly by campers, staff or me.  We all know camp is a gift and we treasure the great moments as well as the tough moments that help build our character.

Have a wonderful evening,
