Activities are in full swing!

It’s 10:00 at night.  Our rookies are having their own version of our Midnight Movie, watching Enchanted, and eating pizza.  The camp has recently quieted down after another rousing evening program, Gold Rush, a camper favorite.  So as camp has settled in for the evening, Suzi and I are relaxing in Pinewood (our summer home/cabin…feel free to write us!) after another gorgeous day on Blue Lake.

It seems hard to believe that 1st session is over.  It just flew by!  We had a great Parents Weekend.  The weather was great, which allowed for many campers to show camp off to their parents, especially their waterskiing skills.  That afternoon and evening, our staff got some well-deserved time off, too.  As Sunday rolled in, so did our 2nd session campers.  We quickly got threw our red tape, and Monday we jumped straight into a full day of activities.  It’s so much fun having our rookies around for the first days of each session.  Their energy and smiles brighten all our campers and staffs’ hearts!  I got to spend both yesterday and today with our rookies down at the ski docks.  Most were learning the ropes on our ‘boom’, while a few gave skiing behind the rope a chance.  The lake was full of our CIT’s, as they went out on Blue Lake to polish up some canoeing skills before heading out tomorrow on their big Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) trip.  I went on 10 of those trips, so I know just how hard, challenging, and rewarding this trip will be.

Sunday’s evening program was Blue and White.  At the beginning of each session, we welcome our new campers to their respective new teams.  It’s very special since you are B or W for life!  After a very cute ceremony where each new camper found out which team they would be on, the teams got together to learn their cheers, and then down to the water front for Tug-O-War!!!  Suzi and I, being on different teams, stood on different swim docks to root our respective teams on.

Monday’s evening program was campfire.  I just love starting the 2nd session with the entire camp together, rookies and all, singing camp songs, telling the traditional camp story, playing guitar, and having the campfire girls tell us all what camp means to them.  Who thought there could be so many tears to START a session, not end one!  The emotions ran high, and it was an evening no one will forget anytime soon.

So today was another scorcher, and another full day of activities.  I swear it feels like we are days into 2nd session, not just 2!!!  I have to credit both our campers and staff for bringing the energy.  It’s been an amazing summer, and our staff has been there to lead the way each and every day.  Kudos to them!

Wednesday will have so much more in store.  I need to get my rest, fellow campers, so forgive me if tonight’s blog is a bit short, but I have a full day ahead of me!!!

Goodnight and Full Speed Ahead
