As the Final Days continue...

The CIT’s of Agawak and Kawaga put on an amusing variety show for us last night in Happy Camper Hall which eventually turned into a dance celebration.  Afterwards, campers headed back to their cabins while cabins BW and 11 enjoyed s’mores at my fire pit. We talked and shared stories until it was time for them to get their pajamas on and brush their teeth only to be awakened for Midnight Movie.

At 11:30 campers were told to report to Happy Camper Hall where they were told we could not find any acceptable movies for them to see. Although we told them we weren’t going to the movie theater we would still watch Elf all together in HCH with popcorn and soda. Overall… they took it well despite a few moans and groans from the crowd.  The administrative staff joined the campers in watching the first 15 minutes of Elf. Then we paused the movie. Lights came on and we announced they were tricked and should head to the buses for Midnight Movie, and to top things off Saturday is Treasure Hunt. Happy Camper Hall was bursting with Happy Campers!

The younger division watched The Smurfs and the older division viewed Crazy Stupid Love. Although they were tired this morning for lazy breakfast, most made their way to the lodge for Ducky’s famous pancakes made to order.  Campers will enjoy a waterfront afternoon combined with a closing Blue and White practice. Tonight is a famous night! It’s treasure hunt. As one camper (Dia) said, “Today is a holiday.”  Everyone is walking and running around camp pumped up for the biggest night of the year.  It’s hard to believe 19 years ago I brought Treasure Hunt to camp. Who would have known it would end up being the most talked about and celebrated evening program? Our Blue and White coordinators (Dana Glink & Megan Miller) have put endless hours into camp’s B&W competition and heaps more time compiling all the clues. Great job! Great leadership! Someday…. it will be one of my current younger campers leading B&W. Who will it be? Who will follow in the footsteps of those who have led before?

Tomorrow we are inviting a few alumni to come into camp for the day to relive their camp days. Alumni will sign-up for activities, make a lanyard B&W key-chain, wax a pinecone, hit a bull’s-eye, ski around Blue Lake and a few other things they haven’t done for many summers.  Then for the first time, a few of them will get to witness our emotional and spirited closing B&W ceremonies which the CIT’s have worked so hard on.

The days are dwindling down and few of us are ready to pack our bags and give up our bunk. We really meant it. We don’t wanna go home! We’re having such a wonderful time. They say there’s no place else like home but Agawak suits me fine. So build me a better bunk…boom, boom and tell my folks at home. They’ll always hear me singing this song…..we don’t wanna go, we don’t wanna go, we don’t wanna go home. We really mean it. We don’t wanna go home!!

What can I say? There’s no place like Agawak.

Smile on,
