Duck Day and Carnival Afternoon

Today at Camp Agawak we spent the morning honoring our head chef, Chris "Ducky" Domack.  Ducky has been with Agawak for 25 of Mary's 31 years.  AMAZING!!  There are very few, if any, camps that can boost having the same chef for 25 years and one that is so good.  Ducky and his staff take great pride in providing our campers and staff with delicious and nutritious meals every day.  So our morning program was aptly named "Duck Day".  The first event of our program was a duck hunt.  Close to 300 rubber ducks of various colors and themes were hidden outside all over camp.  Cabins, traveling together, hunted for these ducks that were to be used in more games later.  Rain moved in and but our fun didn't end as we moved our Duck Games into Happy Camper Hall.

A race across the stage with a duck on your head was the lead off.  Great player support was given from the remaining cabinmates in the crowd. We played chuck a duck and even had a duck calling contest by division.  Senior cabins had to drink water through a straw to get their duck to the bottom of a cup for the win.  It was winner takes all (the ducks). It was hilarious watching all the little colored ducks that were collected in the morning being used in games on stage. Some cabins lost their ducks to other cabins while some cabins gained more ducks. At the end, all ducks were handed in by cabin and counted. Cabins will be given Agawak dollars for the total number of ducks gathered.

This afternoon we had a fantastic carnival.  Again the rain kept us from hosting the carnival outside but you can't bring Agawak spirits down even for a second.  Happy Camper again hosted the event.  Each cabin organized their own booth or game. We had face painting and an X-cellent hair booth where you could temporarily sport blue, yellow, pink, green and purple highlights.  A cookie walk was a favorite as prizes were a choice of delicious cookies.  You could test your skill as bottle flipping and when that didn't work out you could head right next door to the relaxation booth to relieve any stress. Nothing but positive futures were told at the Fortune Telling booth.   Musical chairs and cupcake decorating were also on hand.  Campers could win Agawak dollars and had a blast working to earn as many as they could for their cabin.  At the end of our carnival the evening program of a social with Camp Horseshoe was announced to loud cheers.  Campers had a short time to clean up before another wonderful cookout of grilled and BBQ'd chicken, corn on the cob plus other goodies.

The CITs have made it safely out of the woods and will return from their boundary waters canoe trip tomorrow afternoon. Camp is excited to have them back safe and sound.

Tomorrow it’s lazy breakfast.  Ducky will serve up homemade pancakes with chocolate chip being the most popular.  Sign up for the next series of activities with waterfront and tubing will take up the rest of the morning.  After lunch, our senior and intermediate cabins will be tubing down the Wisconsin River.  We’ve also planned a fun afternoon of bowling and ice cream for cabin 15.   Juniors and Intermediates will have the run of camp for the afternoon with water and land games.  And finally, our day will close with everyone around the campfire with the CITs singing songs about their adventures in the wilderness.

Everyday is a joy watching campers having so much fun with things that to many seem ordinary.  But let me tell you nothing is ordinary about Camp Agawak.  Our director, our chef, our staff, and especially our campers are extraordinary.

Have a great night! - Chris Garcia
