Is anyone camp sick? That seems to be the consensus around here. Our post camp families have taken over the premises. We miss all our campers and hope the adjustment back to city life is going smoothly.

The last campfire to end our season was emotional. Tears fell in abundance and hugs were flowing to the left and to the right. We had quite a journey this summer. We held together through lots of happy days, hard days, ER days and homesick days.  On most days the waters were calm and on a few days they were choppy. Life is like that all the time. Some days you’ll row with all your might against the current and on other days you’ll relax and ride the waves. I had great confidence in my staff and campers knowing we were able to overcome any obstacle that came our way. All of us are stronger for being here this summer. Each of us are forever changed by our camp experience. Everyone left camp a different person than when they arrived. I want all of you to know you are capable of anything you put your mind to.

Remember as you head back out into the wide, wide world you won’t have a small army of your Agawak sisters to protect you, encourage you or stand up for you but I hope you know that your “camp sisters” are only an email, letter, phone call or facebook away.

A goodbye is painful unless you’re never ever going to say hello again. I hope we will be able to say hello again next summer or somewhere down the road. It hurts for most of us to say goodbye because our hearts are connected to this place that welcomes us with open arms and lets us discover who we really are. How lucky are we that we have something like Agawak that makes saying goodbye so hard.

My sincere gratitude goes out to my staff. You were truly a wonderful group of young ladies who put your camper’s needs above your own. Together we made a difference. Thank you for strengthening Agawak’s Legacy.

Until next summer, may the trails that we follow though they are of different paths lead us back to Agawak again one day.

Thank you for an amazing summer. It is one I will cherish forever.

Camp hugs,

Mary xoxo
