Fun-Filled Day

A week has come and gone. Campers have settled into their camp home for part of the summer. First time campers are making connections and developing new friendships and learning new skills. Adjustment from home life to camp life for new and veteran campers has gone smoothly.  The small amount of homesickness present initially disappears with each passing day.

My staff is a strong group of individuals who give of themselves every single day. There are no “takers” among us. This is demonstrated every day when I witness the amount of giving that occurs here. Counselors give their time to look after campers whose parents are many miles away. Counselors give their energy to help homesick campers adjust to camp life.  They give up a part of their summer to instill important values. They give their campers encouragement and support to try new things. It’s quite obvious to me that if you work at camp……you are a person who gives.

Yesterday we spent the morning finishing up with our Hunger Games (Agawak style) Program.  The humidity and heat pushed us over the edge so we switched gears and spent the entire afternoon tubing, blobbing, sliding and swimming in Blue Lake. Laughter and screams rippled off the lake all afternoon until the bell rang for our lasagna dinner.

Today we spent the entire day in activities. Our indoor cooking class made fruit pizza and our outdoor cooking classes prepared caramel apples. The first edition of the Agazine for the summer is finished and on its way to all our parents. First year counselor, April Simpson, has done a wonderful job working with our young writers: Avery Sherwood, Olivia Frankel, Melanie small, Romy Kotler, Sydney Kessel, Alexis Mauer, Macy Shutan and Samara and Halle Michael.  Great job campers!!

Tonight we played a lively game of Steal the Bacon with water balloons. It was a perfectly hot and humid night to be doused with water. Results are pending. Stay tuned.

We are looking forward to a busy day tomorrow!  We have competition with Chippewa Ranch Camp.  Our junior competition team will be traveling to compete at Chippewa while our seniors are staying here to compete.  After competition, our campers will get ready for a social with Camp Kawaga!

Until next time…

Smile on,
