Great Activity Day

Camp Director

Our Tongo rain song must have worked some magic. Standing around flagpole with everyone on a bright and sunny day is my kind of morning.  We wasted no time singing to counselor of the day (Alexa Boorstein) and camper of the day (Courtney Zessar).  Campers and counselors quickly gathered in quiet straight lines and we headed to the lodge for french toast.  Before we finished breakfast cabin J was given the microphone and was in charge of teaching a camp classic, “I’d Rather Be an Agawak Girl” to everyone in the lodge.  It's never too early to sing!

After a good cabin clean up everyone scattered off to their activities. I spent part of the afternoon checking out random activity areas. There was some solid tennis being played on the Agawak courts today. We have some very strong tennis players including new camper Georgia Tuckerman. Our new tennis instructors Anita Racz and Kozue Matsumoto play division 1 tennis.  Campers (especially the CITs) are impressed with their talent and look forward to getting to hit with both of them.  After tennis, I ventured up the hill to the upper athletic field and dropped by gymnastics.  The girls were practicing their skills on the balance beam and Tumble Track. In cooking class yummy muffins were being made from scratch.  My last stop, before heading back to the office, was the lower athletic field. I couldn’t resist hopping off my Gator to play volleyball with campers and staff. Little Rachel Rosen was the star of the group and has a future in volleyball. My goal everyday is to spend as much time as I can out of the office and with the campers. This doesn't happen as much as I would like so it's extra special when it actually happens.

Ducky served up his famous pizza for dinner and we had ice cream sandwiches for dessert.  We devoured close to 100 large pizzas.  After dinner, evening program directors (Beth Grosky and Daniella Mayer) introduced the evening program.  Campers were excited when they announced they would be “dressing up” one of their counselors for the Miss Universe Pageant. Thirteen different countires were represented. India stole the show and counselor Margret Duffy represented India quite well. It was a hilarious way to end a perfect day.

Today there was little time for idleness. The number of broad smiles I saw, this afternoon, break across campers’ faces makes a long day of work worth every minute. It’s time for this director to get some much needed sleep.

Smile on,
