The Hunt 2015

Today most of us are in a daze. The effects of an all night treasure hunt have caught up to the majority of us.  The hunt began at 7:15 pm last night after a wacky game of “Let’s Make A Deal” in Happy Camper Hall.  Cabin Y won a giant ice cream cake, Audrey Smith from cabin 2 won a coupon for an extra dessert for her cabin, Ava Friedman took home a cup of water to fill up her water balloon, Meredith Rudman snatched-up a 45 minute “sleep in” for the CIT’s but the BEST prize of all went to Alana Bercu who got to open the grand prize……….and announce the evening program we’ve all been waiting for “TREASURE HUNT”.  Campers immediately sprang to their feet and the screeching and squealing began. The sound was deafening.  At record speed, they bolted out of Happy Camper Hall to gather their treasure hunt items (string, flashlight, headlamp, water bottle, and stationary).

Our chiefs (Pink & Meadows) were dressed in their head pieces looking serious and tough.  Our Blue and White Commissioners (Julia Spathis, Julia Zazove and Sydney Salit) did a spectacular job with organizing every single clue.  The first clue was uncovered by the Blue Team and by clue 6, the White Team had taken the lead.  At around 10:00pm, pizza and Blue and White cupcakes were delivered to each team.  As 12pm approached, the White team was still ahead. It’s blurry for me after that point but somewhere between 1am and 4am the Blue Team caught up and both teams were “neck and neck.”   I fell asleep with my walkie talkie turned down low only to be awoken at 5:34am by high-pitched screams coming from Happy Camper hall where the Blue Team was bunkered down for 10 hours.  What a hunt it was!!!

A few of us that had enough energy to get out of bed enjoyed a lazy pancake breakfast.  I woke up and went down to camp at 7:20 am with my eyes half open.  I popped my head into the kitchen to see what all the chatter was about and was surprised to see Summer Lipp and Grace Kalmin up and loaded with high energy.  One would have thought they had split a pot of stiff coffee.  Needless to say they were the first to get their pancakes this morning.  Ernest Goes to Camp played on the big screen but no one was there to watch.  Camp remained silent until noon. The bell rang at 12:30 for lunch. Slow and lethargic was the pace for most of the day except for the juniors who were tubing up the afternoon.

Tonight we will host an Agawak Dollar Auction where cabins will use the Agawak dollars they have accumulated during second session to purchase prizes such as cookie baking, sleep over in the rec. hall, henna art party, smore’s with Mary and much more.  Cabin 3 will venture out to the teepee for one last bonfire and night of stargazing.   Duffle bags are being organized in the fire barn as I type to be handed out. I’m afraid to have the boys deliver them.  In August the sight of duffels is not a welcome sight. Duffels will bring tears and the realization that school, home and city life is creeping toward us.  All the memories we have made this summer will forever be cemented in our hearts.

Enjoy your last few days of silence and be ready for some camp sick kids headed your way.

Smile on,
