It's Been a Busy Week at Camp Agawak!

The past two days have been filled with summer fun and lots of laughter.  I was beginning to panic when our server went down Tuesday and I wasn’t able to post anything on our website.  My web developers informed me that we tripled our usage since last summer and our server no longer can support the demand. This is great news and the problem is fixed. I guess all the wonderful pictures we are downloading to our website finally made our server crash.

Tuesday night’s barn dance was a huge success. It’s been quite awhile since I’ve worn my overalls and flannel shirt that I’ve had for the past 25 years. Whoever thought that outfit would be back in style. The counselors and campers advised me to drop a strap. They keep me young and somewhat in style. They also try to teach me dance moves, which I just can’t seem to master.

Wednesday was a beautiful and active day as we competed in Blue and White Tenathalon. It was the closet tenathalon I can remember in years.  The event ended with a senior kayak race to break the tie. In the end, the blue team was victorious.  This year’s daylong tenethalon went on until 5pm. Quickly, we announced our social with Kawaga and everyone scrambled in all directions screaming as they headed for the showers.  The smell of shampoo filtered throughout the woods.

Thursday was a bright and sunny activity day with an amazing game of capture the flag at the local high school. The juniors zipped down the field and were powerful and assertive. The seniors were much more conservative.  Abby Rudman, Ally Linn, Molly Fisher, Drew Zimberoff, Maddy Gallison, Chloe Cohen and Alexis Mauer all scored a flag for their team.  Again, the Blue Team scored a victory.

The PA’s (our second oldest age group) arrived home safely on Thursday all smiles. Most of them shared with me that it was much more fun than ever thought it would be. They also thought the food was well prepared. They looked forward to mealtime each day and witnessed some amazing waterfalls as well as improved their hiking and camping skills. We were all delighted to have them back home all safe and sound.

Today we had another full day of water and land activities. We were also able to squeeze in an all-camp picture, a lip-sync and Olympic Day practice before ending our glorious day nestled around the campfire. Our campfire girls: Jessica Zelen, Tahlia Gurevitz, Natalie Korach, Alana Bercu and Penny Bradley each spoke with meaning as their camp sisters listened with open hearts. I love campfire mostly because it brings us closer together but also because we get to slow down and reflect on the week gone by.

Tomorrow we will have a lazy start to our Saturday followed by a day of fun-filled adventures! Stay tuned for more details.

Smile on…full speed ahead!
