Low Key Wednesday

Last night, the Blue Team burned through their rope first during our evening program” To the Top”.  As usual, White was ahead when the war canoes headed back toward the shores of Agawak. It was during the scavenger hunt that Blue took a tiny lead but it was during the mystery game where Blue Team pulled away from White. I guess Blue Team made up for White’s win in Say What Karaoke on Sunday.

During the night the rain pounded us. I awoke to torrents of rain and called the kitchen to back up breakfast to 9:00am, hoping the rain would subside. By the time the wake up bell rang, heavy rain gave way to intermittent sprinkles. We were able to gather around the flagpole to cheer on camper of the day Regina O., from Mexico, and our BFC Maddie O. from Deerfield, IL.

Ducky had eggs, bagels and bacon prepared as we filed into the lodge. During breakfast the rain pulverized us again leaving us stranded in the lodge. I tried to get a round of Tongo going to stop the rain but no one would sing with me. At one point my administrative staff shut off the microphone on me in midstream.  It was quite apparent everyone welcomed the much needed rain and didn’t want it to stop.  I have to admit… I’ve never wished for rain during camp season but…..the rain sure was refreshing.

The rest of our morning was spent signing up for our last rotation of activities for the summer.  It’s hard to digest but we only have 13 full days of camp left. I don’t know what I’m going to do without my hugs from (our youngest campers) in cabin 12 everyday when camp is over. I miss them already and their not even gone.  This group of campers, who finished second grade, is overly energetic and full of life.  They take advantage of every camp opportunity in front of them. They keep all of us here smiling.

When our CIT’s arrived home from their Boundary Water Trip this past Monday, I was delighted to have them return safe and sound loaded with funny stories which will never be forgotten. At campfire, on Monday, they shared songs they had written on their wilderness camping adventure. What a creative group of girls.  This afternoon the CIT’s led their respective teams in our first closing Blue & White practice.  Then it was off to the shower houses to get ready for our celebration with Camp Timberlane. After an appetizing cookout dinner of veggie burgers and hamburgers we’ll board the yellow buses and head across town for an active outside social.

Our days are numbered here but our fun and friendships are not. We will continue to make the most of every day and cherish the time we have together.
