Porkies Trip and More!

Last Thursday eight brave campers, two counselors and tripping staff member, Margret Duffy, took a trip to the Porcupine Mountains state park in Michigan. They ate lunch at the visitor’s center and hiked in to their campsite on the South end of the park. The girls huddled near the campfire as they ate hot dogs, mac and cheese, and of course, s’mores. Despite the rainy weather on the drive up, Friday proved to be a beautiful, sunny day and the campers took a walk around the park. They stopped at Summit Peak, the park’s highest point and had a beautiful view of the old growth forest and Lake Superior. Next, they stopped for lunch at Mirror Lake and headed back to our campsite for a rest. After a nap they packed up dinner and drove to the beach so the girls could have a swim while the counselors cooked dinner. They hiked back to our campsite and got back with enough time to view the stars before heading to bed.

Bright this morning another 14 campers and 6 staff members drove out of camp and headed towards Black River Harbor.  Campers from cabins D & J as well as Hannah K. (from cabin 14) will be hiking the trails around Black River Harbor.  They were excited to leave on their outdoor adventure but were also concerned about what they were missing back “home” while they were gone. They love our evening programs way too much.

Yesterday we had a relaxing lazy breakfast. The girls enjoyed Ducky’s famous made-to-order pancakes.  They are a must have on Sunday mornings!  We then told the girls that they would be enjoying the afternoon and evening in Minocqua for our Town Day!  The girls got all dressed and ready to go in a matter of minutes.  Once everyone got to town, the shopping began.  Fudge, ice cream, toys and more were bought by all the girls.  Our junior and intermediate campers enjoyed a nice pizza dinner in Torpy Park with their cabins.  The senior campers got the opportunity to enjoy dinner at some of Minocqua’s most delicious restaurants.  After dinner, the whole camp got to see the Min-Aqua Bat show!  We are lucky to have some of our maintenance and ski staff at Agawak as members of the ski team.  The girls always love to cheer them on as they show us their skiing tricks and skills.  After a long day in town, the camp was quiet and everyone got a good night’s sleep!

Today was a full day of activities.  The sun was shining and the girls were all happy!  For lunch, we had our famous pasta bar.  This is a camp favorite.  We only get it once in a while and the girls LOVE it.  We will end our busy day with a nice relaxing campfire.  This evenings campfire girls are: Sarah Perl, Hannah Keller, Stephanie Rush, Carly Lapins and Jen Rosenwasser.  We can’t wait to hear what these girls have to say about camp and what it means to them.  Final Four is coming up in the next couple days, so stay tuned for updates!

Smile on,
