Second Session Begins!!!!

Full season campers were dropped off this morning after a 24 hour hiatus from camp life. Everyone said their goodbyes quickly although goodbyes are never easy.  Campers were happy to be back at camp. It’s their happy place.  It’s my happy place too.

The buses took off on time from Deerfield High School this morning which made for an early arrival at camp. We were anxiously waiting and ready for our second session friends when the bell rang promptly at 2:00 pm.   We gathered at the picnic tables to give out cabin groups then with a 1, 2, 3 we shouted, “take a picture.” Cabin groups ran to the flagpole where Pavel snapped their picture. Look for updated cabin pictures on the website.

We still have two campers to arrive by plane from CA, then our family will be complete. Excitement fills the air. There is laughter on the waterfront as campers are frolicking in the water. Tubing is in full speed for the afternoon. The temperature is near 89 degrees but it feels more like 102 degrees. The humidity is currently 70%! We may not have air-conditioning but thank God for Blue Lake. We’re melting here but we’re melting with smiles on our faces.

Second session campers will find out their Blue and White Teams today.  They will have to dig through the sand to find an egg with their name on it. Each egg will be died blue or left white, signifying what team they are on. It will be fun to watch the girls dig for eggs and to see the expression on their face when they discover what team they will be on for the rest of their camp life.

I know we’ll have our ups and downs over the next few weeks. That’s life. However, even the challenges bring us closer together and make us stronger.  The challenges are learning opportunities.  When challenges are worked out growth is inevitable.

We have an exceptionally happy camp. I’m off to enjoy all my wonderful campers and staff.

Smile on,

Mary and staff
