The sun is shining - Activity Day!

by:
Camp Director

This morning at 6 AM my day was made as I looked out my window to see a bright clear sky.  With our first day of full activities upon us and good weather in hand, it's already an awesome day.

Campers are excited and ready to try new activities and improve upon existing skills. The pace at which we move and the energy a full day of activities generates can't be found anywhere. Watching nearly 50 activities take flight simultaneously is nothing short of spectacular.  Throughout the summer we will post pictures of campers in various activities. Please make sure you check out our media gallery and call the camp office or better yet, look in your pre-camp packet for the password to our Smug-mug picture gallery.

We do our best to get the pictures up as quick as we can but please remember we are in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Often and unfortunately our Wi-Fi goes in and out. If for some reason we don't post pictures it's only because we are having technical difficulty. Please be patient with the process.

Almost every morning at camp we announce a camper and counselor of the day. This announcement also includes any special birthday girls of the day. If your camper is selected to be "camper of the day" it is because she is doing an outstanding job being a friend to others. She is going out of her way to include others and emulates kindness and respect for others. Her attitude is a positive one and she has this quality we call "grit" that's important in life.  She listens and follows directions when her counselors give them and she is helpful in the cabin.

When we announce camper and counselor of the day we break out in an all camp special cheer. It's a special honor and hopefully it helps make them a tad more proud.

Today the kitchen will be serving up scrambled eggs, bagels, fresh fruit, bacon and a cold cereal bar. For lunch turkey croissant sandwiches and a full salad bar with soup to satisfy our hungry activity day appetites. Dinner will be served picnic style outside tonight before playing an evening program favorite called Gold Rush.

I'd like to give a shout out to our little rookies and our amazing Alumnae Staff (Elizabeth Ash, Lindsay Lazar, Erin Mayer and Chelsea Robbins) who came back to camp for the sole purpose of showing these rookies an absolutely spectacular first time camping experience. Alright, we all know they are reliving their childhood as well!! Our rookies are having the time of their lives. Thank you for giving back to camp and for helping to keep our traditions alive.

Last night, it was another historic moment as Blue and White team captains, for the summer of 2017, were nudged into the refreshing waters of Blue Lake. Olivia Baker, Maddie Abrams, Zoe Diamond and Ava Stein, with support and guidance from all our wonderful CIT'S, will lead us throughout the summer in various mental, artistic, and athletic games. The focus is not on competition. Our Blue and White program's focus is on teamwork, instilling confidence and most importantly.... building a sisterhood of special relationships within your Blue or White team. Campers will meet and develop relationships with others on their team which they would never have been able to connect with if it wasn't for our unique Blue and White program that's fast approaching 100 years.

Thank you to our Blue and White Commissioners (Julia Spathis, Sarah Mossler and Jacqui Levitan) for their leadership, vision and endless hours spent putting it all together!!

There's so many incredible things that happen in 24 hours at camp. We accomplish a lot in one day which makes it impossible to write about it all. From time to time I will post these little blogs to get you "up to speed" but realize it's difficult to write every single day.  On days I'm not able to post it's most likely because my schedule has too many things packed in and I'm dealing with a whole host of other more important issues. Please be patient and understanding.

The silver bell will ring this morning at 8 am for "rise and shine". I wonder how many campers that old silver-bell has woken up in the last 96 years? The sound of the bell is one of my favorite sounds. It signifies that camp is alive and changing lives!

Life is good. Camp is great. Make it a great day.

Camp hugs,

Mary & staff :))
