The Swift Passage of Camp

So hard to believe that our first session is coming to a close for a camp season our girls eagerly await all year long. Those Agawak girls leaving got an awesome send-off, starting with our Color Fun Run. Juniors run 2.5 K and Seniors run up to 5 K on our camp course, decked in white T-shirts and then sprayed with non-toxic, edible powdered paints. They emerge as red-faced and color-splashed rainbows.

The exhilaration of the day was heightened at night, as that was THE night for our Blue-White Lip Sync.

If there was a Broadway scout in the audience he or she would have definitely recruited some of those Agawak performers. Wow! Can your girls dance!

I am always amazed how Lip Sync gets better and better every year – and every year is already extraordinary! (Sorry, there was not a Broadway scout in the audience!)

So with songs from last night’s performance of Blue-White acts still reverberating in our hearts and woods, rockin’ tunes that ranged from “Life Is A Happy Song” and “My New Philosophy” to “Fuego” by the Cheetah Girls and “Wrapped Up” by Olly Murs, our outgoing campers are busy packing up and our second session campers are already missing them.

While our hearts are heavy with their departure we cannot wait to greet our second session Agawak girls who will soon be pulling up to camp and will be lovingly embraced by campers, counselors and staff.

Where does the time go? At Agawak, every minute is so packed with energy and activity sometimes it seems like there are hundreds of hours in the day. Though with first session already over, I am poignantly reminded of the swift passage of time, and how important it is to live fully in each moment. It is a reminder to all of us to remember to cherish our loved ones who give us happiness, who give us life.

I often feel like the luckiest person alive to be able to be in a profession in which I get to witness the power of love and friendship all day and every day. Summer quickly flies by but all year round we are bonded by our beloved Agawak. That affection and our excitement builds up for months until we see your girls again on buses come June 2016. That date seems like a long way off, but the seasons churn by so quickly, too quickly.

As always, thank you for trusting us with your daughters summer after summer. They sing and dance and laugh and bring such joy to each other, and to all of us on staff.

Full speed ahead, with love!
