Swim The Lake

by:
Camp Director

This morning at 6:45am brave swimmers plunged into Blue Lake to swim the lake. It was a clear, calm morning with smooth water….. Great conditions for swimming. Camper Dia Chiamovitz and counselor Lily Cohen were the first to cross the rope followed closely behind by Jordan Abt, April Simpson, Ally Russell, Loie Gilbert, Emma Plattner and Hailey Kanter.  Cheers, hot chocolate and hot showers greeted the well deserved lake swimmers. Some of them can cross that fear off their bucket list. Breakfast was oatmeal, fresh fruit and pastries and for those who preferred not to eat oatmeal the cold cereal was flowing.

Sunday night cabins 9 and 10 left the camp grounds after Commando and ventured out to the teepee for an evening of stories and smore’s.  When they appeared at flagpole, Monday morning, it was obvious they enjoyed their time spent in the “woods’.

I’ve asked our evening program coordinators to fill all of you in on last night’s EP so…….. here they are. Hey everyone it’s Melanie and Jenna your evening program coordinators! Last night we played a camp favorite, Project Agawak, a spin on the show Project Runway. The girls got a chance to dress up one of their counselors with supplies that we gave them. Each cabin got 2 plastic tablecloths and a piece of string. All the counselors then participated in a runway show in Happy Camper Hall and we were so impressed with all the amazing dresses the campers made. We narrowed it down to three finalists, Marley Isaacson, Alissa Warsh, and Madison Winner, but in the end, Alissa Warsh won the entire competition.  Everyone had so much fun watching their counselors and the night ended with a dance party in Happy Camper Hall.

Thanks Melanie and Jenna, now to a recap of Olympic Day.  The games have come to a close. It was a close game all the way through and came down to Commando on Sunday night. The teams completed various tasks set up around camp with CIT’s and PA’s leading groups the whole way through. In the end, team UK won commando with the other three teams following in close succession. The teamwork exemplified by all the groups was impressive. After all was said and done Jamaica took first place, dominating almost all the games. UK came in second with Australia and USA trailing not too far behind. Our Olympic Day coordinators Kaylie Denenberg, Melissa Granik and Logan Weiss did a super job organizing and implementing this important program. Well done girls!!

Head tripper Josh Abraham and Margret Duffy packed up the tripping van, loaded wood, packed the pans and headed due north yesterday to Madeline Island with the following group of eager campers: Sophie Lackner, Sari Olim, Lila Patinkin, Carin Cokefair, Tatum Anderson, Hayley Krolik, Sophie Draluck ,Grace Coudal and Romy Kotler.  These campers really love spending time outdoors in nature.

Today we are full speed ahead into activities. The sun is shining and we are enjoying the few days we have remaining in first session. Everyone is excited to see their parents on visiting day but with it brings a realization that summer is flying by once again too quickly. Outside my office window the bell just rang for third period. Campers are running the grounds, dancing to Zumba, learning their lines for Annie and a million other things. We are a happy camp.

Smile on,
Mary
