The perfect Agawak Saturday

We began today with three special birthday girls! Sarah Robinowitz, Gracie Halperin, and Jenna Just all got to experience a full speed ahead birthday at Agawak! Each of them had giant smiles on their face as they received a birthday moose and the camp sung our annual “hip-hip hooray you’re the birthday girl of the day” chant to them. Camp birthdays are so special because we are able to witness firsthand the growth and changes the girls have undergone this summer.

After we enjoyed the famous bacon, eggs, and bagels breakfast the camp split up into their blue and white teams for our annual tenathon. Agawak’s tenathon includes dodgeball, kickball, trampball, swim relays, red girl relays, volleyball, mini soccer, and ultimate frisbee. Each team is split up into ten groups and competed against the other team in five different games. Its days like these that we as an office staff are able to see certain girls strive through athleticism and teamwork.

Lexi Aronin, a first year camper, took on the swim relays with confidence and courage. She never stopped screaming “GO BLUE!” even as she swam. She finished the relay with a huge smile on her face and encouraged the rest of her team. At kickball Devyn Much kicked further than most of our oldest campers. She kept chanting “white team power!!!” It’s so amazing to see these first year campers have such strong team spirit and confidence.

We ended the tenathon with instant results (which led to a blue team victory!) and then surprised the girls with a Horseshoe social. We traveled to Rhinelander where many of our Agawak girls hugged brothers, cousins, family friends, and even some boyfriends. Somehow the camp still had the energy to dance the night away. Many great sibling pictures were taken tonight and should be up on the website soon.

For the first time today the camp is silent and probably fast asleep (or so we think). Tomorrow morning is our weekly “Lazy Sunday” where campers can sleep until 10:30 or get made to order pancakes and watch a morning movie. Lazy Sunday is the only part of each week that we slow down to catch our breaths and is loved by all campers.

That’s it for now…

Smile on,

Megan and Brittany
