Activities Begin

Our first day of activities went as smooth as silk. Sailboats were cruising and first time skiers braved the waters of Blue Lake. Campers made banana boats in outdoor cooking and even cleaned their own dishes.  Fish were being pulled left and right from Blue Lake and a few keepers were reeled in.  On the tennis courts head tennis instructors (Anita and her father, Joseph) were kept very busy feeding balls and giving feedback. Campers were making beautiful birch bark picture frames and jewelry in arts and crafts.  This place was buzzing with energy and everyone was ready to get-up-and-go!

Right before lunch a shot of rain doused us for about 10 minutes but the rain clouds quickly lifted as fast as they came in.  Ducky served chicken sandwiches for lunch and fresh vegetables and homemade dill dip. We had our first cabin inspection of the day. Inspector, Carly Lapins, told me she was being stingy with her points. It looks like cabins are going to have to work harder this summer to earn their pizza parties.

After rest period it was full speed ahead into an afternoon of activities under clear skies. After a fun day of activities everyone assembled at flagpole and waited anxiously to be dismissed up to the cookout area to enjoy Ducky’s pizza.  We all sang happy birthday to Emily Kaplan as she smiled from ear to ear and blew out her birthday candles.

Our evening program directors (Jenna Spathis and Melanie Pascal) introduced the evening program, counselor chaos, and campers screamed even though they weren’t quite sure what it all entailed. Counselors just looked at one another with a look of uncertainty. All I have to say is the campers, old and new, LOVED it.  I now have whipping cream and chocolate syrup all over this place including the steps of the office porch which I had to set over and around. I managed to make it into my office without too much chocolate on my shoes and was greeted by Melanie and Jenna. They just smiled at me and said, “All we need now is a giant hose.”

Tonight cabins X and 4 are nestled into our new teepee as I type this blog. I can’t wait to hear all about their outdoor adventure tomorrow morning. Cabin BW will be the next cabin to venture out to the teepee this Sunday night.

I could write a lot more but before I go to bed, it’s already 12:00 am; I need to write a letter to a camper who never gets many letters. Remember to send letters often but NO packages. Everyone has been applauding my NO PACKAGE rule…..especially the counselors. A few of you, who may have forgotten about our NO PACKAGE rule, or just wanted to test the rule, will be receiving a few packages back in the mail the next few days.

Camp is quiet and all my girls are sleeping like little angels. Hope all of you had as wonderful of a day as all of us did at camp.  Sleep well. I’m off to write my letter.

Smile on,
Mary and staff
