An Agawak Up-date!

by:
Camp Director

This morning we woke up early for our bi-annual lake swim. It was a picture-perfect day as over 60 campers plunged into Blue Lake. With sun on our shoulders and calm water in sight swimmers took off with full force.

Emma from cabin Takota took the lead early followed by Friedman, Greenberg, Kuehn, Pacala, Routh, Kassof, Skok, Fisher and Linn. Campers waiting on shore cheered loudly has swimmers crossed the finish line. A warm cup of hot chocolate also greeted campers at the finish line.

After a great breakfast of hobo hash and a quick cabin clean-up, the bell rang and campers headed out to a full morning of activities. Lena in cabin 1 caught a fish today during morning activities and sure enough Ducky filleted and prepared it for lunch. Sal our head tennis instructor had the girls’ active and looking strong on the courts today. Your campers are picking up solid tennis skills this summer with Sal. Agawak carpet ball continues to occupy almost every free moment. Any opportunity campers have to play this fun game they take advantage of. It's in such high demand that Jesse, head of maintenance, "wiped together" another 2 sets of carpet ball. Ask and you shall receive! This game has become a camp favorite in less than 1 year. Campers are actually sneaking out of the lodge to play. It's very addicting and sure to be a birthday request for some.

Today, Ducky was launching brave staff off the blob as campers gathered at the beachfront to watch their favorite counselors being catapulted into the sky. There will be a few sore bodies come tomorrow morning. The rest of our afternoon was spent competing in Olympic Day events from water skiing. Dodgeball, Red Girl Relay, cross country and a slew of other events. It was a gorgeous day and campers finished with a dip in Blue Lake before heading off to a spaghetti dinner. A fun game of Commando was played this evening and our Olympic Day festivities finally came to a close. Points will be tallied and the winning teams will be announced at breakfast. Julia Turner and Taylor Cohen brought new ideas and special events to our O-day celebration. Thank you!

It's time for this director to drift off to sleep. I can feel summer already catching up to me. We will be enjoying the days and hours we have left together with our first session camp friends. We've already sung, "We don't wanna go home" a dozen times today. Our campers are happy in their "home away from home". They may want us to build them a "better bunk" but they truly don't wanna go home!

Smile on,

Mary
