Agawak Up-date

During the summer season, many people visit camp while it’s in session. Some are alumnae some are colleagues, but most are families who are looking for the right camp to send their daughter to the following summer.I show them around camp; introduce them to lots of campers and counselors; show them our wonderful facilities, cabins, and stunning waterfront; let them bounce on the trampolines, and give them a yummy snack in cookwood.

Many of the camps these families are touring have very nice facilities (I'm biased, of course, and think ours are truly special). But the overwhelming comment I receive from these visitors is not at all about the facilities. It’s about the people that are here. The energy and the spirit!  The sense of comfort our campers feel. Their smiles. And the happiness they exude. I couldn’t agree more when these visitors tell me they select Agawak for the kind environment and the community we’ve built here on Blue Lake. That makes me VERY happy and puts a wide smile on my face.

We are starting to wind down and the reality that the end is nearing brings shouts of "we don't wanna go home". The emotions are high and memories of this summer are starting to form in our minds.  We’ll relish every moment.  One memory I am sure campers will always remember is capturing the flag for their team. Last night, campers played this historic game on the lower athletic field. The juniors played first followed by the seniors. Nora, Elana, Lauren, Ari and Katie all scored a flag for the White Team while Carly and Eloise each snagged a flag for the Blue Team. It was a high energy night after a full day of active activities.

Wednesday, campers and staff enjoyed a late afternoon and evening in Minocqua. Ducky served up his famous pizza at Torpy Park for dinner. Sitting along the beautiful shores of Lake Minocqua, our small town bustles with activity all year but especially during the touristy summer months. Our girls love the quaint Downtown shops and enjoy watching our five, yes five waterskiing instructors perform in the Min-Aqua-Bat Water Ski show.  Did you know the Min-aqua-bat show originated in 1950?

Today, is another beautiful and bright sunny day of full activities at Agawak. Campers are running around taking full advantage of the last few activity days remaining. Camp morale is incredibly high. There is a realization that we must make every moment of these last few days count and make them count we will!

Smile on,

Mary
