Directors Corner

We are anxiously gearing up for another fun filled summer. The grounds have laid dormant since September but soon will be alive and flourishing. The physical preparation of getting camp ready for everyone's arrival is a major undertaking. I'm thankful last week we were able to get in two full days of raking before snow greeted us again. It's exciting as I watch camp transform back into our summer home.

Some of you may recall we had a significant wind storm which ripped through camp in September. It uprooted 42 major trees, wiped out several canoes and left behind a monumental mess. Our cleanup still continues. I always chuckle to myself when people ask me if I've been enjoying my free time in the "off-season". There isn't an “off-season”. It takes a full 10 months of diligent preparation to make our 2 month camp season a success.

Parents and campers please remember your commitment to make sure that all electronics including cell phones remain at home. Campers, you won't have your electronics at camp but I promise you the connections you'll be making at camp will far surpass any electronic connections. Let's stage for success by following through on this simple camp rule.

Please remind yourselves to pack light. Shelves are small and cabins get overstuffed very quickly. In this situation, less is certainly more. Laundry goes out once a week and is returned folded within 24 hours. Pack for a week NOT a session. Packing light will help your cabin succeed during cabin inspection but more importantly a clutter free cabin will be a healthier cabin.

Like all of you, I'm counting down the days until we are assembled on the beach chanting Blue and White cheers. Every summer is different, no two are ever alike. Every summer presents new challenges as a camp director yet every summer is better than the summer before.  I'm not quite sure how that's possible but it is and I'm just as excited for everyone to arrive as I was my first summer in 1989.  Let our camping days soon begin.

Camp Hugs,

Mary
