The Bright and Beautiful days at Agawak

Monday and Tuesday were bright and beautiful activity days. Campers made scrambled eggs over the fire in outdoor cooking and our indoor cooking program made Anzac biscuits. Since 1990, Agawak has been bringing outstanding staff from “the land down under” and these biscuits I’m sure made them feel a bit more at home. Our jogging class is preparing for the 5K Aqua-Rama Run this Saturday which is a town event. Everyday campers stop me to announce with pride that they crossed the wake, got up on skies, or slalomed skied for the first time. I love moments like these because they feel a great sense of accomplishment which in turn fuels their self esteem. Campers are writing up a storm in Agalog and will go home with a bound copy of their writings upon departure. I can’t wait to see the finished product and all the creative illustrations.

Monday night the CITs pulled off another fabulous round of Blue and White Cupcake Wars. This year‘s theme was animated movies. The Minions, Zootopia, Lion King, Lego and many more movies were represented. There were so many cupcakes and so little time to decorate and put it all together. This dessert-focused decorating competition requires teamwork, creativity, the ability to think on your feet and lots of cooperation. It was a fun and very messy night!!! :))

Campers rang the silver bell this morning (that is almost 100 years old) to begin our fun Summerfest event organized by our CITs. They are learning what it takes to run a successful program and all the details involved from beginning to end. We had a pop music station on the tennis courts with face painting, dancing, homemade punch and a photo booth. At the upper athletic field they were jamming country music, tossing balls at the dunk tank, eating mouth watering watermelon and participating in various relay races. At the waterfront we had a hip hop music station. Music played at the KWAK radio station as campers swam, danced and devoured every snow-cone flavor they could get their hands on.

Our afternoon and evening will be spent in town. Cabin groups will have the chance to checkout the hot spots of Minocqua including Dans Minocqua Fudge, Monkey Buisiness, Kilwins, the local bookstore and the Lakeland Variety Store... a favorite old fashion five and dime store. We will end our day at the local waterski show where Charlotte, Kylie, Adam and Quincy (who all work at Agawak) will be involved in the show. How fun is it that our girls get to watch some of Agawak’s waterski instructors perform! Our campers love the special “shout-outs” they receive from the announcer throughout the show.

Can it really be that we only have two weeks left? How quickly a camp season can fly by. It seems like just yesterday we were welcoming everybody for the start of the summer and yet in, what seems like, the blink of an eye we are down to our last two weeks. While our season is flying by the friendships we forged and the memories we are making will carry us through the coming year. There is still a ton of fun to look forward to...Final Four, Gonzo, Goldrush, Relay for Life, Mary Mile, more Blue and White.....the list goes on!!
Don’t worry we will continue to fill every moment we have together with memories that can’t be beat!!!
