The Final Days of First Session

Activities were in full swing today.  I love activity days; as campers challenge themselves, accomplish new goals and rush to share their achievements with others.  That little proud twinkle in their eye as they reach the top of the Tango Tower, slalom for the first time or land their first aerial round-off, brings a wide smile to my face.  They are building confidence daily and discovering they can achieve their goals much easier in an environment that supports them and encourages them to keep trying.  There is no question in my mind that your child will go home a better person because of what they experience, accomplished, and learned at camp this summer.

After last nights hilarious Miss Agawak Pageant 2015, our evening program tonight is preparing for our famous Blue and White Lip-sync production that will take place tomorrow evening.  I have no doubt that this event could bring in enormous crowds if tickets were sold.  I’m anxious to see the creative chorography and the bigger than life spirit generated from this highly anticipated event.

Today was an emotional day as many are realizing their time here is coming to a quick end.  I shed a few tears myself these past few days as campers approach me begging me to call their parents in hopes that I will be able to convince them to let them stay full season.  They do not shed small tears…they sob uncontrollably.  As I walked the hill tonight to quiet everyone down, one camper who has been relentless in her pursuit to stay told me she had it all figured out.  She has been trying for weeks to convince her parents to stay through letters, siblings and through me. She now has a new plan. Her new plan is to go home. When her parent’s see how miserable she is they will “give up” and let her return.  She told me she would be packing her bags only to bring them back.  All that camp talk about Grit is coming through.

Tomorrow we will rise and shine to sing, “We don’t wanna go home” around the flagpole, then be doused with powered paint as we jog around camp in the second annual Agawak Color Run. The waterfront will be open and we will be tubing, blobbing, and sliding into Blue Lake. The next two days we will hug our camp friends more tightly knowing our first session sisters will soon be heading home.

Goodnight. Sleep tight.
