Camp Blog

Final few days

Yesterday, It was our last Sunday morning lazy pancake breakfast for all. However, only a handful of younger campers were up enjoying pancakes filled with chocolate chips is my guess?  My older campers took  advantage of the one morning they get to rest undisturbed by the silver bell.  Sunday was a bright summer day here unlike this morning.  Quickly after we dismissed from flagpole torrents of rain hit the ground.  The blacktop path leading to the waterfront looked more like a small river than a foot path.

This morning it’s packing time! Campers and counselors will spend the morning folding their belongings and stuffing their duffels which will be picked up tomorrow morning. Parents be on the lookout for your campers’ bags to return home before they arrive if you are using Baggage Express.  Last night, campers received their laundry back from the camp laundry service. I suggested over and over again that they leave it folded and wrapped in its plastic wrap to be packed up. I hope many of you will open up your daughter’s camp duffels with some clean laundry inside.

At lunch, I will hand 35 campers their 5 year blankets. Campers receiving their 5 year blankets are:  Abby Jordan, Ally Schwaeber, Murphy Hughes, Nikki Morris, Maya Barr, Chloe Levitz, Phoebe Patinkin, Tatum Oblonsky, Bryn Grossman, Ashley Morgan, Alexa Frumm, Marley Berk, Samantha Kaufman, Emily Kaplan, Tatum Rudman, Chelsey Jacobs, Amanda Amiel, Kendall Michaels, Josie Lowell, Natalie Korach, Kayla Morris, Tess Ludwig, Olivia Glantz, Morgan Paull, Joni Rosenberg, Samantha Linn, Taylor Warren, Ryan Metz, Sophie Schwartz, Zoey Kohn, Ilana Spitz, and Dani Hammer.  Thanks for the fun memories!  I would love to give each of these wonderful campers a silver Agawak charm for their 10th summer.

Our adorable campers in cabin 1 had a fun-filled day trip to Crystal Lake yesterday. They swam, played games, caught lots of frogs, met new friends and had a special afternoon bonding as a cabin. Our last tepee adventure went out Sunday night. It was a free sign up which meant campers who really wanted to go had the opportunity.  Our adventurous outdoor campers were: Lilly Waters, Hannah Ohel, Madeline Gold, Peyton Kessel & Maddie Friedman.
CIT’s have been working hard on their closing B & W songs. I can’t bear to listen to them.  It means another summer gone by and quietness is quickly coming.  It means no more “knit one peal twos”. No more “Hip Zoo Ra Zoos”. No more hobo hash and no more “Hip, Hip, Hooray you’re the camper of the day” for another 315 days.  My head is already full of new ideas and improvements for next summer.  Every summer is unique and special. This summer has been no different.  It was one of my best summers as a director, if not the best!!  I attribute this to my outstanding staff.  When the staff is exceptional we can focus 100% on the campers, 100% of the time! It has been that kind of a summer.

Enjoy your peace and quiet while it lasts. Stay tuned for more Agawak merriment!
Smile on,
Mary
