Final Four Update

The past few days we have been knee-deep in Final Four programming. Our Final Four teams (Penn State, Florida State, Arizona State and Michigan State) battled it out one event at a time. Opening ceremonies on the lower athletic was packed with excited campers, creative banners and tons of Final Four spirit. The skits, songs, and team cheers were well-rehearsed making it difficult for our judges to pick a winner. After the votes were tallied, Penn State took the lead. Beautiful bright skies soon turned to rain and we headed indoors for a Say What Final Four dance-off which Arizona State captured. Rounds and rounds of basketball, soccer, nuke em and dodge ball followed. Again, Arizona State took home the win. Our day ended with a camp classic, capture the flag.

After a hobo hash and oatmeal breakfast campers and staff prepared for the famous Gonzo Relay. An enormous relay consisting of 67 individual team events scattered throughout camp. Campers were swimming, biking, running, canoeing, singing in the shower, completing word searches, hammering nails into woodblocks and kissing our historic moose which hangs above the office porch. Although Arizona State led the race at the halfway mark with plenty of cushions it was Penn State that rang the Gonzo relay bell first. The final event tug-o-war went to Penn State. When commissioners, Amanda Amiel and Tatum Oblonsky announced the overall winners Arizona State (by 1 point) cheering could be heard throughout camp and across Blue Lake. It was the smallest win margin in Agawak history.

With only 1 week left of camp we have so much left to do. We have to swim the lake, Treasure Hunt, take part in the ski tournament at Kawaga, watch or perform in the play "Wizard of Oz", give out Camper/Staff Awards and sadly Blue & White Closing ceremony.  When summer starts, August is so far away but we blink and it's almost over.  We will be going strong until the last minute!
