First Day of Activities

The shores of Blue Lake were filled with the hustle and bustle of campers swimming, fishing, canoeing, sailing, snorkeling and paddling most of the day.  We had a rewarding day of activities with smiles all around. Honestly, I've never been hugged so much in one day in my entire life. I literally walked around camp with a smile on my face for most of the day. Everyone seems overly happy and excited to be at camp this summer. Maybe it was the long, long winter we had in the mid-west that's making us appreciate camp more. I can't put my finger on it but it's very obvious we are thankful to be together at Agawak. From sunrise to sunset I walk throughout camp daily talking to campers asking them how their day is going.  I get lots of thumbs up!! Today a camper asked me if I could slow down camp. How precious is that? One of my CITs told me they didn't want to go to sleep while they were at camp because they needed to savor every moment of their last summer as a camper.

Ducky’s showcased a new recipe this morning: baked apple cinnamon French toast… It was delicious! The Tango Tower was a BIG HIT today. Olivia V. was the very first camper to reach the top and flew down the zip line! Sophie S. was the second! Approximately 75 campers climbed up the Tango Tower today. VERY impressive. Needless to say, our new climbing wall and zip line are off to a great start! Your's truly, personally climbed to the top right before dinner and jumped off the platform.  I wanted to build this tower for over a decade. It's a goal accomplished! The teamwork and personal growth which will occur as a result of the Tango Tower will be significant.

Down at the ski docks today we had loads of first-time campers skiing on the boom and veteran campers crossing the wakes for the first time since last summer. It was very exciting to see some of our youngest campers get up on two skis!

After an exhausting but exhilarating day that went from overcast to radiant sun, we feasted on Ducky’s famous Friday night special, homemade pizza. From vegetarian to cheese to pepperoni pizza, we had it all!

As I sit here writing this, camp is crazed with tonight’s evening program, Gold Rush! Cabins are dressed alike in costumes ranging from our new white Agawak polos to rainbow tutus, all trying to look for the treasure around camp without being caught by counselors who are the bandits!

Even though it’s only the second full day, the energy level of camp right now is off the charts. New and old friendships are blooming and it is obvious that this is going to be a summer of growth, exploration, and adventure. What a joy to watch!

Happy Trails,
