FULL SPEED AHEAD.....

It’s early in the morning. Campers are tucked in their bunks and will awaken to the sound of the silver bell at 8:15 am. We have been running at a fast pace the past several days as we have so much to try and accomplish in the next two weeks.

On Sunday I took most of the girls from cabin 2 and Ava Friedman on a fun trail ride while everyone else enjoyed lazy breakfast.  We “saddled up our horses” and hit the muddy and winding trail for an hour.  All of us enjoyed our morning ride and the conversations we had were even better. We finished our ride with an ice cream pit stop.

Campers signed up for a new rotation of activities on Sunday and spent much of the day in the water tubing and swimming.  Since second session began the weather has been hot and humid just perfect for waterfront activities. We had a beautiful campfire Sunday night and campfire girls Ginger Rosenheck, Lucy Paull , Skye Greene, Sydney Hirsch and Jessica Hosey spoke from the heart as they poured out their feelings and shared the many ways in which camp has changed them. I also read a beautiful Agalog writing from Gabriele Pascal, which was so eloquently written.

The Mike Ross run was a success as we had 50 runners complete the 5k event.  Olivia Ambrose, Courtney Cutlip, Kiera Abramson, Natalie Korach and Caroline Routh all placed in their age group.  Campers seemed to enjoy the donuts, camaraderie and the ending raffle prizes just as much as the actual race.

Yesterday was an activity day. Campers made mokey bread in indoor cooking and prepared blueberry cake in outdoor cooking. We skied and sailed Blue Lake from morning until sundown. On activity days camp is bustling and alive. I try to forget that shortly the quietness of the off-season will set in.  Our Tango Tower was in full swing but missing a few campers who traveled to Camp Timberlane for a climbing competition.  Camper Ruby Rosenheck came “home” with a bouldering award.  It’s true, our climbing program is really budding. We are producing little “monkeys” who can make it to the top of our 55-foot tower will ease.

The CIT’s made it back form their Boundary Water canoe trip safe and sound and a whole lot stronger.  As they filed off the bus I heard countless times, “That was the hardest thing I’ve even done in my life but so worth it”.  A trip like that doesn’t come around often. I’m thankful they are back and know that the memories they hold from their trip will remain with them until they are old and gray.

Last night our PA’s (second oldest age group) performed in the annual Miss PA Pageant held in Happy Camper Hall.  Check out the pictures on our media gallery.  Amanda Amiel was crowned the winner for her stellar performance as Caillou.  Chloe Levitz and Murphy Hughes came in second for the portrayal of Earl and Lucille local Minocqua tour guides. The bronze sash was handed out to Josie Lowell and Ilana Spitz for playing the part of ski instructors Jack Fitzpack and Adam Flash.  Laughter was free flowing. Thanks to all our PA’s for a fun-filled night.

Today we are going full speed ahead into another jammed pack activity day.  The sun is shining and temperatures will be in the 80’s.  Have a wonderful day.

Smile on,
