1-2-3- take a picture. It’s picture day at Camp Agawak as well as Halloween. Our camper of the day is Morgan Gurtz, the counselor of the day is Karissa Hamblet, the crazy, and yo-yo camper of the day is Avery Sherwood. During flagpole I have been selecting individual campers who go out of their way to include others and make others feel welcome into our camp family. These campers embrace new campers and incorporate them into the cabin and are kind and caring. Today Sylvia Siegel was chosen as our bully free camper (BFC) of the day. Campers selected as BFC are awarded a blue Agawak tank top with the words, “I don’t get my pleasure from other people’s pain”, printed on the back.  I believe in positive reinforcement and using campers and staff to set the example for others to follow.

We assembled as a camp up in the upper athletic field to take the all camp picture. With the sun baking down on us we moved along quickly taking individual as well as cabin pictures.  Ducky is making his homemade macaroni and cheese for lunch with apples and a full salad bar.  Campers’ love his mac and cheese but their favorite meal is probably tonight’s dinner of barbeque chicken, baked potato, watermelon and corn on the cob.

This afternoon we will get into the water to cool off before announcing Blue and White Lip-sync groups. The afternoon will then be spent breaking off into lip-sync groups and practicing for the upcoming lip-sync competition.  The remainder of the afternoon will be spent preparing for the 4th of July parade dance. Our new 4th of July tanks just arrived and we will hand them out to the dancers the day before the parade so no one misplaces their tank.

The lodge is fully decorated with bats, spider-webs, pumpkins and orange and black streamers. Halloween music will play throughout camp all day long until we gather at flagpole tonight dressed from head to toe in Halloween costumes. A prize for the best individual costume will be awarded along with a pizza party. The first year junior counselors will spend part of the day creating their haunted house for all of us brave enough to travel through it tonight.

It’s a gorgeous day at Agawak today. Hope all of you enjoy your weekend while we enjoy our Halloween. Tomorrow is Lazy Breakfast here. We’re all looking forward to sleeping in a tiny bit. Even our lazy days are full speed ahead.

Smile on,
