Happy Sunday

It’s was lazy breakfast today.  Our kitchen staff was flipping an assortment of delicious pancakes left and right. Fresh fruit, frittata & cold cereal were set up on the salad bar tables for campers and counselors to eat at their leisure from 8:30 to 9:30.  While campers waited for their scrumptious pancakes, they hung out with their camp friends & the movie “Kicking and Screaming” was showing in the lodge.  The morning was packed with various clinics from waterskiing, to arts and crafts, to archery, to storytelling with Iris. This afternoon, campers will be signing up for a new series of activities which will start on Monday.

Our weather lately has been challenging. One minute the sun is out and it’s hot and humid (83 degrees yesterday) then torrents of rain come pouring down.  One of the great things about camp is that after the day is done, it really doesn’t matter what the weather brings because we’re together experiencing the kind of fun that can only be found at camp.  So rain or shine,
everyday here is filled with fun.

Saturday was crammed with organized cabin activities and a Blue and White lip sync practice.  Our rambunctious 8th graders spent part of their day bowling and making cupcakes.  In the morning, we waved goodbye to our CITS and PA’s as they boarded the bus and headed to an indoor water park. Cabin 1 spent most of their day in the water splashing around and playing games like red girl relay. Several cabins wished to climb the Tango Tower so  cabins 9, 10,11 & Cedarwood’s wish was granted and they explored the tower and climbed to new heights.  Cabin Oakwood made beautiful candles in candle making and hung out on my pier swimming the afternoon away.  As you can see, we had campers going left and right all over the property.  When the CIT’s and PA’s returned they told me, “We just had the BEST day ever!” This was true music to a camp
director’s ear.

Tonight we will gather at campfire to sing our favorite songs, listen to Wes and MP play guitar, share the Agalog and honor our campfire girls: Jessie Coplan, Katey Goldman and Annabelle Nickoll.  Campfire girls are selected for their kindness, love of camp, positive attitude, and their acceptance of others to name a few.  Campfire is typically an emotional event as the campfire girls reflect on their camp experience and reveal personal feelings to their camp family.  I’m always amazed how quiet it becomes when someone begins to cry as they read their key-log writing. Campfire has a powerful way of bringing us all closer together.  Of the entire evening programs, campfire still remains the most special to me.

I last glanced at my watch around 10:30 am this morning and now its 4pm. The days go by too quickly at camp. We are trying to savor every moment.  Our campers are excited for a new week ahead and the challenges and excitement that lie ahead.

More fun to come.  Smile on.
