Harold Hiken

by:
Camp Director

It is with great sorrow that our camp family has suffered a loss in the passing of  Harold Hiken, HH or H as many campers have known him by.   Harold was a former High school Teacher and Owner of Camp Timberlane for 25 years (1961-1986).  When the time came for Oscar Siegel and Eugene Deutsch to pass on ownership of Camp Agawak in 1989, Harold came out of Camp Director retirement to take ownership and directorship of Agawak with the Fried's.  Continuing the rich history of Camp Agawak, H complimented the traditions with some new ones and implemented a love and enthusiasm that is carried on by all those that had the opportunity to cross his path. The many lives he touched will miss him dearly but the life lessons and endless songs he taught us all will continue to be passed down to those that were never luckily enough to know him.   He was a magnificent family man, math teacher, story teller and song leader. No one will ever sing Jonny Rebeck or Mountain Dew around the campfire quite like "H".  We will continue to keep his spirit alive through the songs he taught us and the fond memories that will never leave us. The love he shared will live on in the spirit of what we all know is Camp Agawak.

Our deepest and sincerest condolences to Sharon his wife, daughters Susan, Cindy and Nancy, son Jim and his seven Agawakian granddaughters and 2 grandsons who shared their husband, father and papa with our Camp Family.

As the master of all good campers would say, "All is well safely rest, God is nigh".

"We love you H"
