Lazy Sunday

Hey there campers. Welcome back to the Agawak blog. It’s late here Sunday night…almost midnight. We finished up our weekly staff meeting, which followed our first campfire, which followed another amazing meal by Ducky, BBQ ribs (this Memphis boy was in heaven), which followed an afternoon of cabin/age group games and activities, which followed a morning of activity clinics, or tubing (I think Bill and I pulled the entire camp tubing!), which followed lazy breakfast (Ducky said he made more chocolate chip pancakes this morning than he can ever remember). Confused? Heck, I’m confused just writing it! Let’s start from the beginning…

This morning was lazy breakfast! The camp could sleep in as late as 10:30 AM, but most everybody was up before that for Ducky’s mouth watering chocolate chip pancakes. I had Sadie H. come up to me and say, ”I ate an entire pancake by myself!” We had some girls take tennis lessons, and of course the gaga pit was hopping, as well as every tetherball pole in camp. (You may not know this, but Agawak is the tetherball capitol of the world. I’m the self-appointed commissioner). At 10:30, we get the girls together and let them choose between going to some clinics (activities we open up which gives the girls a chance to try an activity they may not have signed up for) or just head down to the waterfront for swimming or tubing. Even though today was only our 4th full day, our girls have been going full speed ahead!  It’s always nice to give our campers, as well as our staff, a lazy day to catch our breath. We also, sadly, said goodbye to our rookies. What a few days they had. Hopefully we will get them back for a full session next year. 3 weeks with us, 49 with you. That’s fair, right?

The afternoon we kept our cabins, and our age groups together for some spirited games, like dodgeball, trampball, red girl relay, drip drip drop, etc. We like to not only have cabin bonding days, but age group bonding days. As the girls get older, they have a good chance of sharing cabins with different girls their age, all the way until they are CIT’s!

The evening belonged to our first campfire. The singing was spirited!! We had several campers get up and sing, one cabin had already written a song! It was awesome. I sang a couple songs, told ‘the story’, and then we heard our first campfire girls throw keylogs into the fire, sharing with us what they were thankful for. I’ve been around campfires since 1972, and they never get old. Still my favorite evening program.

It’s late and I just wanted to write a short blog, but as the summer goes on, that get harder and harder to do.

We got a long day tomorrow. Full day of activities. Another day filled with camp memories. What could be better???
