Memories Forever!

The memories we make at Agawak will live forever in our hearts. Last nights treasure hunt is one memory that will never be forgotten. It began at 7:23 pm and ended at 3:51 am with piercing cheers coming from the Blue Team nestled together in Happy Camper Hall. The White Team was close behind and their efforts were amazing as they never gave up for a moment and remained strong to the very end. Clue by clue each team stuck together and redefined the word TEAMWORK! Agawak has many traditions and our historic treasure hunt is probably the most favorite tradition of them all.   Pizza was served as a snack around 10 pm last night but I am sure our sleepy campers and staff will enjoy this morning's last lazy pancake breakfast. Ducky will be serving his homemade pancakes until 10 am this morning. As I look out my window, I see no movement as everyone is sleeping in and will flood the kitchen soon to devour their blueberry, chocolate and plain pancakes.

Having spent the last 31 years at Agawak-more than half my life-I get to see daily the incredible life-long bonds that are formed and the circle of love that surrounds us when we are all together. On Tuesday night, we will sit around the campfire one last time for the summer of 2019. We will be snuggled together with tears in our eyes as we say goodbyes to one another. I know that some of you were anxious moms and dads, sending your camper off to Agawak for the first time. Please be assured that there are plenty of hugs and supporting words given out in all directions. Our returning campers and their parents already know this to be true. Kindness and inclusion are the two things that are most important to me and it's at the core of our success. The bonds formed this summer and every summer are significant and deep. The more summers you attend the deeper the connections become. It is truly my greatest joy as a camp director-to watch friendships grow, to see campers walking with arms wrapped around each other, smiling, laughing and engrossed in conversation.

This afternoon, with temperatures in the high 80's, we will enjoy our stunning waterfront as we tube Blue Lake one more time and have fun on our many water toys. Tonight, we will finish our day with a closing Blue and White practice. Every summer both teams create a goodbye song and skit to close out the summer of 2019. Each team will present their final goodbyes to the entire camp on Tuesday morning. The last 3 days of camp will be filled with lots of camp hugs and laughter. Soon your camper will be home telling you all about their overnight camp adventure and singing silly camp songs. Enjoy the peace and quiet! while it lasts.

Smile on,

Mary
