Midnight Movie Madness

Midnight Movie…Midnight Movie!!!!!  Last night the buses rolled into camp at 11:30 p.m. and we boarded the buses & headed to the Lakeland Cinema for a private showing of "Finding Dory".  Campers were caught off guard with Midnight Movie being much earlier than in previous summers.  Boxes of popcorn were handed out as campers entered the theater. This morning we slept late and not a soul was awake when the bell rang at 10 a.m.

This afternoon we hosted Camp Menominee for a “snow day “ waterfront afternoon. Evening program coordinators (Alice Brown, Chloe Weiss and Alana Bercu) did a terrific day of planning the event and Alice and Chloe did a superb job of implementing it.  The Agawak slip-n-slide was lathered up with shampoo, trampball was open, and campers were lined up for the waterslide.  The snow cone machine could barely keep up to the demand. KWAK radio station was jammin’ good tunes, campers and counselors were dancing and everyone seemed to love the “chilled” afternoon leisurely rotating from station to station.

It’s interesting how many times throughout the summer I overhear campers and counselors beginning a sentence with the phrase “I never thought I would….” Attending Agawak is truly a collection of “I never thought I would….” moments. Although the “I never thought I would…” comments are as varied as the campers and counselors, one of them is….“I never thought I would make so many new friends”. Everyone comes to camp I guess expecting to meet new people but I think most never imagine that they could grow so close to their cabin mates and fellow counselors in just a few weeks.  Campers and counselors will make dozens of new friends from all over the place and they will feel closer to some of them than people they have known for years. Camp is a powerful thing and the relationships formed here are significant and meaningful.

Tomorrow is an activity day, but rain is predicted. Regardless of the weather we have binders full of rainy-day activities if needed. With all our amazing indoor facilities rain or shine we are ready to go “full speed ahead”.
