Morning of the 4th of July!

This Blog was written on July 4th, but due to problems with Charter Communications we were not able to post until today.

It’s the 4th of July and everyone here is pumped up.  At flagpole this morning everyone came decked-out in their 4th of July attire.  We sang our birthday wish to USA and everyone headed up to the lodge for scrambled eggs and bagels. Patriotic songs such as Born in the USA were piped into the sound system so it was a fun and festive breakfast.

Campers headed back to their cabins for a formal inspection and once they passed they were allowed to get their spending money for town and the older campers boarded the buses. Our younger campers ate lunch here to shorten the long day in town just a bit. After lunch it was there turn to make the trip into town. Campers will spend the day as a cabin group, snacking and visiting their favorite Minocqua stores such as Monkey Business.

At 3 o’clock all parade dancers will gather at our designated meeting spot to get in their dance lines.  I have preached for the past few days the importance of staying hydrated. No one left camp with an empty water bottle today. At 3:30pm the kiddie parade will begin followed by the official Minocqua 4th of July Parade. The girls have practiced long and hard and are ready for show time. The Agawak fire truck and the Agawak 4th of July banner will precede the group of dancers down the main street. All of us will enjoy a cookout after the parade before we head down to Lake Minocqua to watch the ski show. Once the ski show is over we will assemble back to our cookout area to watch the fireworks ignite in the sky.

Today is a great day. No one is ill or complaining of a tummy ache. No one is upset with anyone in their cabin.  Everyone wants to participate in today’s activities. Everyone is listening. Everyone is smiling. I guess 4th of July brings out the best in everyone. Socials seem to have that effect on campers as well.

Speaking of socials, we had a terrific social with Camp Ojibwa last night on the tennis courts.  Kasper and his talented group of dancers put on a great show for both camps. We served brownies and drank lots of water. Everyone was dancing and hanging out with friends and brothers. I’m happy to report we didn’t lose power yesterday due to excessive use of blow dryers in camp.

Well it’s off to town for the 4th. We will take scores of pictures to capture our fun filled day. Enjoy your 4th of July.

Smile on,
Mary & Staff
