Olympic Day in Full Swing

It’s another bright sunny day at Agawak. We woke to clear skies and the smell of pancakes. Camper of the day Emily Small, counselor of the day Sally Drake and birthday girls of the day Carly Siegel gathered around the flagpole as me sang our morning cheers to them. Last night we had a social at Camp Horseshoe in Rhinelander which means it wasn’t an early bedtime last night.  We opened the snack shack when the buses pulled back into camp. I guess the girls were hungry from all that dancing.

This morning I sat down for breakfast with a few different cabins to chat. I asked several campers what their favorite activity was here at camp. Sophie Salinas said her favorite activity was swimming in Blue Lake. Ava Levine told me she loves tubing! Olivia Frankel said Archery rocked, Rachel Rosen chose basketball and biking as her favorite activities and Maddie Gold’s most preferred activity is Arts & Crafts.  For some reason my waterskiing staff seems to think skiing is everyone’s most favorite activity but this just goes to show you they have touch competition from other program areas.

Olympic Day is in full swing again today with Big Games and Commando later this evening. We finished the last round of series this morning and spirits were high as campers competed for first, second, third, and fourth place in various activities. One event, National Anthem, was particularly spirited as the campers decked themselves out in America themed costumes. Sloan Oblonsky took first place for Australia. After series the campers continued on to play the first round of soccer and basketball for Big Games. The competition is heating up and the rest of the games are going to be played this afternoon. Campers are getting excited for Commando tonight and we think it’s going to be an eventful night. The scores are close. It’s anyone’s game.

It will be a full day of activities tomorrow. First session campers will have a few days left to hone their skills before they have to say their goodbyes. Campers have been singing, “We don’t wanna go home boom, boom. We’re having such a wonderful time. They say there’s no place else like home but Agawak suits me fine. So build me a better bunk. Boom, boom and tell my friends at home. You’ll always hear me singing this song. We don’t wannna go. We don’t wanna go. We don’t wanna GO HOME!”

Our KWAK radio station has recently been given a boost of power due to a large antenna. Please tune into 89.7 when you turn onto Agawak Rd. on Saturday of visiting day. You may even hear your daughter’s voice over the airwaves.

Enjoy your Sunday.
