Parent's Day

What a wonderful Parent’s Day it was.  A long line of vehicles waited for the gates to open at 9am as campers waited unwearyingly on the tennis courts for their parents to appear. Hugs and kisses were pouring out from every direction as campers were reunited with their families. Parent’s Day is always a mix of emotions and today was no different.   Although the weather was overcast, the rain held off and the sun eventually popped out around 3pm. Ducky prepared a delicious lunch for all of us but the majority of families ventured into Minocqua to see what was “cooking” downtown.

By 2pm camp looked much like a ghost town except for counselors anxiously waiting for their second session camper files to be distributed.  After business was taken care of counselors had the waterfront all to themselves.  Some took advantage of their well deserved free time to tube and ski Blue Lake while others went into town or caught a quick nap.  I truly couldn’t have asked for a smoother Parent’s Day.  Thank you to all the parents, cousins, siblings and grandparents who made the trip up for this special day. Many of my parents travelled from a far distance.  Although it's a quick 24 hour visit, I truly appreciate the sacrifices you make to get here. Each of you gets a parent of the year award!

Nestled in their beds back home are anxious and excited campers waiting for their chance to begin their camp experience. All of us here look forward to the start of second session.  We have oodles of memories still left to be created until we sing our final “friends, friends” and sail our birch bark candle boats out to “sea”.  All you “camp” people know what I’m talking about.  It’s been a marvelous summer thus far and I can’t wait to live deeply in the woods with all of you for another three and a half weeks.

Sleep well. Goodnight.
