Through Rain or Shine, Second Session Goes Full Speed Ahead!

Second session is well underway with the arrival of our new campers.  They are an excited bunch of girls.  Parents should be thrilled to know that we only have two little campers who are experiencing normal bouts of homesickness.  It’s nothing we haven’t seen and successfully dealt with before.  New camper Jessie Biagorria wins the first time packing award!! WOW!! Her mom knows how to pack.  Jessie arrived with one bag.  We searched every inch of camp for the second bag.  In 26 summers I’ve never lost one bag.  When Jessie arrived we discovered she only sent one bag. A BIG sigh of relieve went out. First time in Agawak history that a camper purposely arrived with one bag. Way to go!!

Yesterday when the buses rolled into camp we quickly gathered at the picnic tables and rambled off cabin groups.  Campers ran to take their swim tests and complete incoming physicals and were soon tubing the waves of Blue Lake. Blue Lake was alive with screams and laughter right up until the dinner bell rang.  Ducky served up his scrumptious barbeque ribs and roasted potatoes.  Without much notice old campers were directed outside to wait for all first time campers to be escorted out of the lodge single file with closed eyes.  Every new camper was given a cup with tin foil on top.  On the count of three campers poked their dominated hand through the tin foil. Blue and white hands emerged.  Screeches and screams echoed throughout camp.  Both Blue and the White team broke into team cheers.  We moved from the picnic tables to outdoor team meetings. The bell rang and we headed to the waterfront for a tough tug of war.  The night ended with sign-up.  Yes, campers are signed up and ready to go full speed ahead into activities tomorrow.

This morning our camper of the day was Allison Schwaeber and counselor of the day was Sarah Twal from Australia.  This morning campers played a fierce game of pillow case bingo and part of the day was spent playing “Heads Up”, our brand new Blue and White game. Girls split up by age division and played a timed charades game within three categories: Act it Out, Animals Gone Wild, or Hey Mr. DJ. Needless to say, the afternoon was filled with ridiculous imitations, hysterical attempts at humming pop songs, and lots of laughs. Much of the day was spent in doors due to persistent rain showers. But have no fear tomorrow the skies are suppose to clear.

We had a lively and emotional campfire.  MP started off by singing some camp favorites followed by some senior counselors leading us in the traditional Agawak songs that we love.  We had some special performances from campers that were outstanding!  We really do have some talented girls here!  Our campfire girls were Abby Rudman, Jenna Chapman, Kiley Isaacson, and counselors Gabrielle Pascal and Danny Baez.  Their speeches were truly amazing and showcased how special Agawak is to them.

Tomorrow, our mighty CITs leave for the Boundary Waters of Canada.  Although they are a little nervous and apprehensive, we have assured them that they are going to do an incredible job.  This is a trip that they will remember for a lifetime.
