What a GREAT start to camp!

On my… how the first two weeks have flown by! I wish we could press the slow motion button but there are just way too many things we need to pack in and accomplish. Today is a gorgeous, hot summer day. Campers are crossing wakes, hitting targets, climbing towers, and cooking up a storm. We had a much needed Blue and White Lip Sync practice after lunch and tonight the creative juices will be flowing as campers work together to create one of a kind circus cupcake master pieces for our annual cupcake wars.

Several campers will be heading to the “back forty” of our 260-acre camp for a teepee adventure with our head trippers and Iris. We have 14 campers from various cabins signed up for this overnight adventure. Tonight will be a fun evening for them, as campers of varying ages will share in laughter, games, stories and s’mores around the campfire. I was happy to see so many brave and adventurous campers volunteering for this overnight trip.

Campers may think they’re just going to the teepee tonight with friends, but at the same time they are learning how to communicate with others around the campfire, how to listen to one another, how to be brave in the woods and the importance of maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. The summer at Agawak is filled with day-after-day life lessons, disguised as teepee trips, swimming, playing, singing, dancing, biking, hiking and exploring.

It’s true that spending the summer at Agawak turns followers into leaders, fears into courage, shyness into confidence and laziness into responsibility. Our campers get to try new things, ask questions and be vulnerable in order to improve themselves. Campers learn about time management, organization and respect for peers. The list goes on and on. Every day, campers are learning valuable life skills that easily transfer over to their daily lives.  Parents, you can be confident that your daughter will leave camp with a better version of herself. We have much to accomplish so I better wrap this up before the dinner bell rings. It’s a cookout tonight with ice cream treats and popsicles. Until next time, enjoy the warm weather and stay–tuned for more camp excitement to come.

Smile on,
