Saturday night’s treasure hunt program is an extremely popular activity at camp and the most exhilarating program we have at camp. Treasure hunt is the final blue and white game of each summer and demands each team to work together to solve a set of clues and find a final treasure. Each clue leads to different locations in camp or in town. The team works together to think and move quickly throughout the night to win the game.
Saturday night’s treasure hunt began around 6:30pm and did not end until the late hours of the night. Each clue forced the team to think together and creatively to achieve the next clue. An example of a clue was a piece of paper with the equation “length X width =” written on it floating in a bucket of water. After much deliberation each team solved the clue and sent groups to the swim area at camp. Waiting at the swim area was another clue which led to a different location. The night was full of surprises and challenges for each team to work through.
This game is especially exciting for our oldest campers as it is the last blue and white game they play as campers. It is amazing to see the CITs work together to advance throughout the night. They also exemplified great leadership by using each team member’s ideas. Both teams were neck and neck the entire night and finished less than 15 seconds apart. You can imagine the excitement and adrenaline that filled the camp. In the end the White team got to the treasure chest that was disguised as piñata and won treasure hunt.
This evening was Blue and White closing ceremonies. It was the perfect end to an amazing day with the alumni. Each team came up with a theme made up a song skit and cheer and performed for the rest of the camp. White team’s theme was White Party which was based off of the video game Mario Party. They showed so much spirit and pride for their team it brought us all to tears! The Blue team’s theme was Blue Prints and they based their skit off of working together to create the perfect foundation for their team. The Blue team’s energy was amazing and their dedication to their team is truly moving. Both teams incorporated an old retired blue or white team cheer which their alumni sang. It was so special to have both new and old Agawak campers together in one place in one ceremony. We can’t say it enough we are so proud of our CITs! They led their teams with grace and good sportsmanship and their faces were priceless throughout the closing ceremonies! We are so excited to see how they will transition from campers to counselors next summer because we see such strong leaders in each and every one of them.
While we are always sad to see Blue and white come to a close it has been an amazing summer. Both teams played competitively and showed amazing spirit pride and dedication for their colors. It was so wonderful to see the campers work together to help their teams achieve victories throughout the summer. It has truly been our pleasure to commission the Blue and White games for the summer of 2011. We could not be more pleased with both teams and it will be very hard to present the final results.
Congrats and thank you to our CITs
