Final Four Fun

The skies look threatening Tuesday morning as we headed into the lodge for oatmeal fresh fruit and bagels. Shortly after we completed breakfast and were headed back to our cabins for inspection a burst of rain came across Blue Lake ending our hopes for a morning Final Four Gonzo relay race.
As we often have to do we switched gears quickly and went into our last activity signmer. Cabins were called to the lodge with raindrops falling. Campers selected their last series of activities and were heard groaning in disbelief that this is the last time they will be handed their signmer.

By 2 p.m. the skies cleared up the sun popped out and we were given a picture perfect afternoon for the Gonzo Relay race. This intense 2 hour relay had campers biking swimming running and doing numerous activities from tennis archery puzzles canoeing and much more throughout camp.

Florida was in last place going into the third day of competition. However they took first place in the Gonzo relay followed by Alabama Kentucky and Georgia. After a spirited tugpetition scores were tallied. Alabama took home the Final Four Cup. Florida raised themselves from last to second gave out 2 MVP awards. The following girls were honored and proud to be chosen by their teammates (Olivia Gordon Emily Williams Devyn Much Cami Fishman Molly Gold Halle Abrams Emma Nitsun Liza Greenberg). Solid sportsmanship and teamwork was displayed by all and campers went to bed last night a little more exhausted than normal.

Today it’s…..”To the top of Agawak mountain”. After breakfast our Blue and White teams will work together to see which team will succeed first in burning through their teams rope. After completing roughly 20 separate challenging and grueling events one team’s rope will fall first but both teams will be proud of the combined efforts of all their team members regardless of what happens. The sisterhood of Agawak the sisterhood of Blue and White is about doing your best caring for one another and in the end we are ONE.

Thursday is the Lake Swim and the Kawaga Ski tournament mixed in with a full day of activities and a lively night game of capture the flag. No time to rest on our laurels. There’s too much left undone to be finished!

All of us here seem to be a little dazed and confused as to where the summer has gone.
One minute we’re watching the opening staff show then quickly parent’s visiting day rolls in and now we have only 7 days left together. With this comes a realization that school and city life lurks around the corner. We’ll  have to dress differently sing and dance differently and wear our hair differently.  No more tight braids and pony tails. “BOOM BOOM….we don’t wanna go home”!!

Very early this morning our Agawak charms were molded. Fifteen deserving girls will receive their pendants for spending a decade of summer’s at Agawak. During awards night this coming I’ll get to hand each one of them this coveted piece of jewelry which they will wear with pride and hold close to their hearts forever. Their reward is not really the pendent but rather their reward is new friends lasting friendships new experiences confidence and learning things about themselves that they will use for the rest of their lives.

As we head into our last week we will cherish every moment of our remaining time together.

Smile on
Mary
