Activities Galore… In 2024!

Our first activity day started off cloudy and cool. We gathered at the flagpole to celebrate our camper and counselor of the day.   By late morning the sun was shining on our shore. Rookie skiers were up for the first time, swimmers plunged into Blue Lake, sail boats were gliding across the water and bicyclists hit the road.  Agawak is known for its wide variety of fun and engaging activities taught by counselors and specialists in their field. It was full speed ahead today as campers climbed the 55 foot high Tango Tower, jogged the forest trails, hit and missed the archery target, broke a sweat in kickboxing and cooked up a storm with Karla.

For lunch, we enjoyed a delicious chicken wing cookout with a variety of sauces and a full salad bar.  During the rest period, mail was handed out, campers mailed letters, relaxed on their bunks or sat together on the swingy benches near the lake. Throughout the entire afternoon, laughs could be heard everywhere in camp as campers and staff moved on from one activity to the next. Campers are trying new things, making new friends and learning many new skills. They also learn about nature along the way. Campers might be afraid of dragonflies until they learn they have a purpose and eat mosquitoes.

This evening, we played Nancy Drew, organized by Evening Program Coordinators, Elle, Maya, and Riley. This involved cabin groups working together to solve several clues around camp to ultimately find the suspect who stole the missing Stanley Cup. It brought us joy to see everyone dressed up in ridiculous outfits running all over camp searching for clues. So many new friendships are blossoming no matter what game we play at camp. There are few places in the entire world where you can meet someone on Monday and consider them a close friend by Wednesday. It’s a reminder of how special overnight camp at Agawak is.

I seriously can not express how amazing it is to have Agawak buzzing again with campers hugging one another, running up and down the many paths, ringing the silver bell, shouting knit-one-pearl-twos, and going full speed ahead.  We have one activity day in the books and plenty more to come.

Stay tuned!
