Almost here……

As I type this long overdue BLOG I’m sitting on the edge of my wooden camp chair. I can’t sit still. Emotions run deep this time of year. Stress runs the deepest.  Did I place everyone in the best cabin group possible?  Will all the staff flights go smoothly? Will we be able to fix the Agawak fire engine before everyone arrives?  Will our new website be successfully launched by this evening?

Yes you read correctly. Agawak has a new internet .  Countless hours have been poured into the new layout which I’m hoping all our campers and families will love as much as I do.  I’d like to thank Keystone Click and the one and only Chris Garcia (office manager) for all her assistance in helping me with our newational email earlier today inviting our families to log onto the new website. This is a new process for me so please be patient with the “bumps”. I am told the website will launch by Monday. I expect some glitches but wouldn’t it be amazing if there were none?  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Make sure it’s positive. Just kidding!

I’m looking forward to having my staff assembled.  They will arrive in shifts the next several days. My wonderful kitchen staff from Eastern Europe and Mexico arrives late June 8th. around 11pm our spirited international counselors arrive. All first time American counselors arrive on with the remaining JC1 and JC2 group following on Tuesday. BY next Wednesday we will be a family 0f 100. Work at camp is energizing; it’ll key you up expose you to aspects of yourself that you’ve never explored.  I hope all of my staff OPENS THEMSELVES UP TO what is about to unfold.  Working at camp will build your capacity….but only if you let it.

Please remember to pack a lunch for the bus trip to camp on June 20th. Buses will depart from Deerfield High School at 8:30am. Check in will take place at 8:00am and campers will be assigned to a bus. Any medications needing to travel on the bus must be given to the nurse at check in. We understand this will be a stressful time for many campers and parents. Please let us do our job by saying your goodbyes quickly. You will be helping us but more importantly you will be helping your daughter.

Once again Dr Chris Thurber will be joining us during staff training. He will be working with the staff to help prepare them for what lies ahead. His book The Summer Camp Handbook is now online for FREE at SummerCampHandbook.com.  You may want to check it out!!  Chris is a licensed clinical psychologist. He has done extensive research on homesickness and campers adjustment to separation from home.

Thank you again to all of you that have turned in your forms and responded to the travel email.  Camp is ready and all we need is you.
