GORNING YEA YEA GOOD MORNING!
Just a little ditty we sing around the flagpole some mornings…
So yesterday we decided to put an Agawak twist on the Hunger Games. We placed cabins together had their CIT”S be each group’s Mentors had the Staff set up as the Gamemakers Suzi and I were President Snow and Effie and had an entire day planned with various training exercises and challenges. We were all set! We ate breakfast cleaned cabins each “district” dressed similar cheers were made we gathered on the upper athletic field and as we sent each district to their first challenge…you guessed it the rain came!!! But hey a little rain cannot dampen the spirits of this camp and a few minutes later we were all in Happy Camper Hall (HCH) doing celebration district lip syncs. It was so fun! I truly believe that anytime these girls get a chance to dance and sing on a stage they are happy! It then turned into a quick dance party before lunch which was apropos for our evening program.
The rain decided to not let up so in the afternoon we decided to have the tributes of each district dress up their Mentors and we interviewed each Mentor about their experiences when they were tributes in the Hunger Games. The girls really got into dressing their CIT’S up and each CIT was hilarious! As I asked each Mentor a ‘what if…’ question I asked the last Mentor ‘what if we were having a social tonight what would you wear?’ Well the cat was out of the bag and ‘social social’ was being screamed and everyone was off to get dressed up again!
We were clearly a ‘hungry’ camp (nyuk nyuk) because Ducky was amazed that we almost ran out of chicken corny fav meal) when he made the same amount he always makes. Maybe it was because we ate inside instead of the usual Saturday night cookout. Regardless a lot of food was consumed. The boys from Camp Timberlane (where I spent about 15 years as a camper and counselor) arrived and the dance party began. The rain let up so everyone could mingle inside or out and Ducky’s brownies were a hit as usual. Our DJ girls Jamie Melanie Jen and Jenna also had our girls sing our Happy Birthday song to Timberlane’s owner and Director Mike Cohen. He was very humbled!
Man what a long day! I meant to write this last night but I’m so sorry I was out like a light. A well needed and deserved lazy breakfast was in order for all so as I sit in my cabin sipping coffee and reminiscing about our first few days all I can think is what a great start we are of to. The summer of ’12 is off to an epic start. This afternoon we have all kinds of clinics planned and the one I’m most excited for is getting our first time skiers up on the boom and hopefully the rope…TODAY! We’ll report on it later and look for photos later today also.
Have a great day though not as great as ours…!!!!
