Mary Fried, Owner & Director
With over 30 years of camping experience Mary is a committed and seasoned director. Mary is only the third owner of Camp Agawak. Mary brings passion, hands-on leadership and incredible warmth to a camp culture that is as extraordinary as it is fun. Mary’s Master’s degree in educational psychology along with a background in school counseling makes her a highly skilled and compassionate director. She has dedicated her life to working with children. Since 1989, Mary has helped thousands of young campers transition successfully to overnight camp.
Mary has three children Jaclyn, Jacob, and Joshua.

Chris Garcia, Associate Director
Introducing Chris Garcia, the dedicated associate director of Camp Agawak, who has devoted 15 years to year-round camp operations. As the key communicator for camp families, Chris is the friendly voice behind countless emails and phone calls, ensuring a smooth experience for all. Born and raised in Minocqua, she left to pursue a Masters Degree in Business, then returned with her husband to raise their four children in the Northwoods. In addition to her camp responsibilities, Chris passionately coaches swimming at both the high school and club levels during the winter months. With her commitment and enthusiasm, she is eagerly anticipating an unforgettable Summer 2025!

Jacob Fried, Assistant Director
With a lifetime of camping experience, Jacob Fried is a dedicated and enthusiastic member of the Camp Agawak community. Holding both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in business from Marquette University, Jacob brings valuable skills to his role. Having lived at camp his entire life, he has a deep passion for helping and working with the wonderful campers and staff. His energetic presence can be felt throughout the camp as he assists with activities, programming, and everything that makes Agawak special. Jacob’s commitment to fostering a positive camp environment is evident in all that he does. He is eagerly looking forward to another exciting summer ahead, always with a smile on and ready to go FULL SPEED AHEAD!

Sarah Mervis, CIT Director
Meet Sara, affectionately known as Merv, a valued member of the Administrative staff at Camp Agawak, who is thrilled to share another summer with everyone. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin and a master’s degree in teaching from National Louis University, which enrich her contributions to the camp. With a lifelong connection to this camp, she has spent every summer here for at least a week and has enjoyed over 17 years of dedicated service. As the CIT Director and Division Head for some of the senior cabins, Sara works closely with the oldest campers, fostering their growth and development. During the school year, she brings her passion for education to her role as a 3rd grade special education teacher in the suburbs of Chicago. A proud mother, she is excited to have one camper and one counselor in the Agawak community, making this truly her happy place!

Emily Williams, Activities and Program Director
Meet Emily, a beloved member of the Camp Agawak community, who is thrilled to embrace another summer of joy and adventure. With 12 years of experience at Agawak, she has journeyed from camper to counselor, served as Blue and White Commissioner, and is now part of the office staff. Emily graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder with a business degree, which enhances her role in coordinating activities for both staff and campers, ensuring everyone has a fantastic time. Her passion for camp shines through in everything she does, and her dedication to creating memorable experiences makes her an invaluable asset to the community. Emily truly loves Agawak and can’t wait to make this summer unforgettable for everyone!

Ari G - Counselor
Ari is from Highland Park, Illinois, and this will be her 9th summer at Camp Agawak and her first on staff. Her favorite thing about camp is the amazing people she’s met over the years, and she’s most excited about meeting her own campers this summer! Ari is ready to bring the energy, make memories, and be part of another incredible Agawak adventure.

Madeline G - Counselor
Madeline is a senior at Highland Park High School. This will be her 9th summer at Camp Agawak and her 2nd on staff. Her favorite things about camp are waterskiing and making lifelong memories. Madeline is so excited to be back in her favorite place, surrounded by friends, fun, and the magic of Agawak. She can’t wait for another summer!

Styra G - Counselor
Styra is from San Antonio, Texas, and is a freshman at the University of Texas. This will be her 10th summer at Camp Agawak and her 3rd on staff. She can’t wait to be back on Blue Lake! Styra will be helping with waterskiing, drawing and painting. She’s excited for another summer of adventure, creativity, and making lasting memories with everyone.

Jenny G - Counselor
Jenny is from Leicester in the UK and is in her first year at the University of Nottingham. This will be her first summer at Camp Agawak. She is excited about spending time by the lake, trying new things, and making friends. Jenny will be helping with sailing and paddleboarding. She’s looking forward to an unforgettable summer of fun and new experiences!

Terra M - Counselor
Terra is a freshman at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is returning for her 11th summer at Camp Agawak, with this being her 3rd summer on staff. The lifelong friendships and memories she’s made at camp are her favorite things, and she’s most excited about being a CIT counselor. Terra can’t wait to lead kickboxing, cooking, and sailing sessions. She’s ready for another incredible summer and to make lasting memories with everyone!

Emma J - Counselor
Emma is from Deerfield, Illinois, and will be a freshman at the University of South Carolina in the fall. This will be her 10th summer at Camp Agawak and her 2nd on staff. Her favorite things about camp are skiing and kickboxing. Emma is excited to be back on Blue Lake and bring her energy to kickboxing. She’s ready to make this summer the best one yet!

Abby M - Counselor
Abby is from Wilmette, Illinois, and is a senior at New Trier High School. This will be her 8th summer at Camp Agawak and her 2nd on staff. She’s most excited to spend another summer with her friends and campers in her favorite place. Abby will be helping with jogging and kickboxing. Whether she’s leading an active session or enjoying time with friends, she’s ready to make this summer unforgettable. She can’t wait for another amazing summer at Agawak!

Maggie P - Counselor
Maggie is from Worcestershire, UK, and this will be her first summer at Camp Agawak. She is excited to meet new people and work with the kids over the summer. Maggie will be helping with biking, the Tango Tower, and jogging. Whether she’s out on the trails, up on the tower, or running around camp, she’s ready for a summer full of adventure and fun. She can’t wait to get started in 2025!

Gabby P - Counselor
Gabby is from Highland Park and is a junior at Highland Park High School. This will be her 5th summer at Camp Agawak and her first on staff. Her favorite thing about camp is Blue and White, and she is excited to meet all the new incoming campers! Gabby will be helping with swimming, sailing, and soccer. You’ll find her on the field or out on the water, always bringing enthusiasm and camp spirit. She can’t wait for summer 2025!

Mariana S - Registered Nurse
Mariana, also known as Mari, currently lives in Arizona but moved about a year ago from Homer Glen, a small suburb outside of Chicago. She has been a nurse for a little over a year and is currently working as a school nurse—a job she loves every second of! This will be her first summer at Camp Agawak as a registered nurse in the health center. Mari is most excited to be in the heart of the Northwoods, on the lake, and to meet everyone while building lifelong connections. Having spent the last 26 years visiting Minocqua and Manitowish Waters, she holds this area close to her heart and can’t wait to spend the entire summer in one of her favorite places. She’s looking forward to an unforgettable summer at Agawak!
