Only at camp

Today was filled with happiness. Our CITs safely returned from their canoe trip happy and are exhausted but beaming with pride. They will remember this adventure for the rest of their lives.
Our color run through camp this morning was a so much fun. Summer (the camp dog) joined in the fun and ran with campers through the nature path as counselors tossed powdered safe paint into the air dousing their white tmer couldn’t escape without some pink and green streaks in her hair.
As we finish a busy week we look forward to Final Four another BIG event. This summer campers will be placed on four teams: Indiana University Ohio State University of Wisconsin and Michigan.
There are tons of big events at Camp Agawak. From arrival day to Halloween to lip syncs to Final Four to Treasure Hunt to closing campfire. It could be easy to chart ones way through an Agawak summer based on what big events just happened and what’s on the horizon. That’s intentional of course.
They’ll always be memories being made and something to look forward to every day.  If I ask counselors and campers to recap any summer it will include a handful of big events like the ones mentioned.  However the best times at Agawak often come not from the action and the big events. It’s the little moments that have a big impact. Chats at night walking to fill water bottles a counselor reading bedtime stories a camp tennis tournament at rest hour  teaching someone how to make a friendship bracelet and late night talks.
The most vivid memories can’t be rep they happen organically. This also happens in reverse as our campers teach us things all the time. Campers remind us to capture a moment. We get to relive the excitement when a camper scores their first bull’s in a campers voice when they return from the boundary waters  trip. Camp is about friendships the inside jokes the cabin games and more than anything it’s about the moments that only can happen at overnight camp.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful children with us. It’s been a wonderful and fast first week of second session. Your camper is growing in tremendous ways here and stepping outside their comfort zone. I am confident you will see a much more independent self assured and stronger child return.
Stay tune for more fun! Full speed ahead and smile on.
