Despite intermittent rain on Friday we managed to push through our third full activity day. A few outdoor activities had to be switched to a rainy day alternate activity however, it didn’t interfere with the fun we were already having. Morning water activities were shifted to Bingo for those who weren’t interested in having raindrops falling on their heads. Bingo was a big hit with campers who got to sift through a container of mixed candy after shouting bingo. I was proud of all the campers who gave water skiing a try or tackled the Tango Tower even though the conditions weren’t ideal. Several huge fish were also caught in fishing class.
Friday evening was spent dancing in Happy Camper Hall with our “sister cabins” for Agawak dollars. Each cabin was paired with an older cabin and performances took place in Happy Camper Hall. Several standouts emerged. Cabin 10 and CW came in fourth place. Our oldest campers, the CIT’s, were matched with cabin X and took third place. Cabin B and their sister cabin 1 secured the first place win. A handful of Agawak dollars were awarded for everyone’s strong effort.
Our second oldest age group in camp boarded a chartered bus and headed up to Grand Marais on Lake Superior for their three day canoe and hiking trip. Loaded with backpacks, bug nets, rain gear and hiking shoes the bus left camp on time with braids of all sizes and lengths onboard. I’m looking forward to hearing all about their adventures and challenges when they return on Sunday.
Saturday the rain lingered all morning long. Name That Tune was the highlight of the morning and distracted us from the raindrops outside. Thirty songs were played with the last song being awarded five bonus points. Staff and CIT’S were allowed to help campers. The victory went to Cabin 1 and Cabin Oakwood who were driven to Briq’s for a yummy ice cream treat.
This afternoon we divided campers into their Senior and Junior Blue and White teams and played silent spelling bee. We will announced a social with Camp Horseshoe and campers will come dressed to evening flagpole ready to board the buses right after a cookout dinner. Rookie campers will have Camp Agawak all to themselves tonight and hone their cooking skills in our indoor cooking facility. Homemade gluten-free muffins are on the menu.
On Sunday, we will rise for a lazy pancake breakfast, enjoy morning clinics, sign up for the next round of activities and close out the week with a warm and relaxing campfire.
