HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

by:
Camp Director

Today our camper of the day, Joanne Howsen, hails from Bexley, OH. Counselor of the day, Jodie Trim, from Australia was nominated not only by me but also by her campers.  It’s a gorgeous sunny day at Agawak.  Blue skies are above us and we are in full swing of activities.  Our Tango Tower is buzzing with campers eager to climb to the top with little fear.  Outdoor cooking is making homemade pancakes over an open fire.  Our dance class is diligently preparing for the 4th of July parade which looks amazing. The song chosen this year’s parade is a remix of Everybody Dance Now!

Campers are busy today trying new activates and challenging themselves in different ways.  Ava Friedman was smiling ear to ear as she successfully got up on the rope.  Casey Hughes scrambled up the Tango Tower and made it look easy. Sydney Kessel tried skiing for the first time. Way to go Sydney! Lily Barnow bravely attempted to water ski despite the choppy waters. Macy Shutan got up on two 2 skies for the first time.  Katie Noll cruised Blue Lake on skies for the first time.  I challenged her at the beginning of camp to get up on skies.  She completed the challenge & was proud of herself.  Sweet Norah kayaked the white caps of Blue Lake using her mighty muscles to maneuver though the waves.  Every day it’s a learning adventure at camp. Camp is teaching these girls how to be independent and strong-to stand up to their fears and to know that life is full of new quests.

This is a friendly reminder that we DO NOT accept packages.  All packages will be sent home or rerouted back to the return address on the package.  Please remind friends, grandparents and other relatives of our no package policy.  Thank you for your cooperation.  Also, we do not allow cabin shirts or cabin sweatpants to be shipped to camp.  Some of you have called regarding this and I want to make sure all our families realize this causes significant issues among our campers and other cabin groups. It clearly creates unwanted competition. I am trying to instill “togetherness”.  Thank you for your understanding.

Did you know its Halloween at Agawak tonight? Our evening program coordinators Lainie Kleifield, Alissa Warsh and Marissa Lachman tell me tonight’s haunted house, organized by our strong group of first year junior counselors, could be the best one in Agawak history.  I won’t be able to personally evaluate since I tend to steer away from things that scream & pop out at me in the dark.

There will be whip cream pie in the face competitions this evening along with hay rides, dunk tank and oodles of carnival games for everyone to enjoy.  Campers will win candy as they bounce from game to game.  It’s never a dull moment here at Camp Agawak and tonight will be no different.

Like my campers and staff I just can’t imagine a summer without camp. From the glow of the campfire to the sounds of happy campers, I find myself summer after summer wishing camp could last longer.  July is peering over our shoulder.  Tomorrow morning we’ll turn a calendar page and be wishing it was still June.

I’m off to put on my Halloween costume.  Stay tuned for more camp fun.
